Buy decent servers and stop layering!

Nostalrius had 13 000 peak players online at the same time with NO LAYERING. Source: dkpminus website.

How comes that Blizzard, now owned by Microsoft, a multi-BILLION dollars company, can’t achieve what someone achieved in a garage?

I recently built a new computer and am on a fiber connection. Go ahead Blizz, remove layering! I like watching everyone else around me running in place, unable to tap mobs, and all resource nodes available only to people like me running high end gaming systems.

Layering is unironically healthy for the game. It provides more resources so there aren’t mafias running around controlling the market on specific / every resource. I know it doesn’t feel amazing to not see so many folks in the open world but layering helps maintain the availability of resources and promotes a healthy in-game economy

Mafias add to the danger, drama and life of the server. Also Nostalrius increased the spawn rates to scale with the number of online players. It was not an issue.

I’d rather have layers than more people around.

if you want layers, play on a server that allows layers

if you dont want layers, then there should be servers that dont have layers

its the same concept for pvp, i dont understand whats so difficult about this

And are we going to also make PvE, PvP, RP, and RPvP versions of non-layered realms as well?

How many different types of realms do we need before it becomes unnecessary bloat which confuses people?

They have improved open world pvp lag a lot since launch but yes Nost had huge epic pvp battles with very little lag. I still see lag even on layered server. It should be their top priority, especially when STV is going to be just as crazy, if not more crazy than ashenvale

Yeah and Nost pvp server ran like garbage with 3 second + input lag. No thx.

People have spoken. They want mega servers and layering is the way for that to work.

WoW classic SoD lags alot with layers. Nostalrius without layers had almost no lag. It should be the top priority of Blizzard to buy decent servers and remove layering.

I mean were far from the magnitude of bandwith that Netflix has to deal with:

  • One person streaming 4K videos means a bandwith of 15 MEBABYTES/second.

  • One WoW Classic player means a bandwith of 10 KILOBYTES/second.

I remember Nostalrius running great, can’t relate to your statement.

The fact that the Blizzard servers are very bad and are mitigated by layering is enterily a business decision to increase profits at the cost of user experience.

Posting in a thread where the OP asks a question, gets the actual answer and reasoning behind it and OP just keeps screaming into the void about a preconceived bias rendering the initial question redundant.

TL;DR OP is just here to complain

Nostalrius had a good amount of server lag at all times, and every 5 mins there was a long hiccup. It was a great achievement for them to have so many players, but stop pretending it wasn’t without it’s own set of problems.

Lol it’s not about they can’t have 50k ppl online on a server in 1 layer. It’s about if you can get anything done if that many ppl after the same resource. Ultimately layering is a tool to avoid server mergers n crap in future when the population will go down.

You definitely don’t need layering for mega servers to work. You just can’t handle the inconvenience of a lot of players all being on the same version of the world.

That’s cute.

That’s why.

The question “How comes that Blizzard, now owned by Microsoft, a multi-BILLION dollars company, can’t achieve what someone achieved in a garage?” is a rhetorical question to support my title “Buy decent servers and stop layering!”. I’m litterally proposing a solution.

Layering has more to do with to do with how small and linear WOW zones and current quest lines and chains then due to lack of ability to support larger populations. Without layering questing becomes almost impossible due to how the zones work. While it’s getting to the point where people are spread out, this will change again when the next phase launches and again everyone will be forced into a few zones fighting for the same limited resources. This will be far worse on SOD then it was on any other server since leveling speeds typically spread people out, however with the artificial stops at 25, 40, and 50 everyone will be pushed back together, though higher levels shouldn’t be as bad as the initial levels.

So faster and more expensive servers will have zero impact on the need to layer.

no ROI. They don’t charge separate sub so they cant justify buying separate architecture.
