I’ve been monkeying around with 1-button rotation on my shadow priest and I noticed that when I cast Shadow Crash using the 1BR, it hits whoever I’m targeting instead of giving me a targeting circle. How do I do this without the 1BR? I hate the targeting circle with a passion and would love to see it go.
It is a talent i believe, i think it is a choice node with shadow crash. Lemme find the name.
Edit: yeah its a choice node. So just swap to the other choice if you have to manually target.
Side note: blizzard do this for all targeted ground aoe spells, thank you!
I didn’t change any of my talents. When cast shadow crash through the 1BR it auto-targets. If I cast it manually I get the target circle. I don’t think it’s talent related.
Obr has to work for clickers so it ignores targeting circle mechanics and uses your target instead.
There is a talent you can use to do it manually too but it’s the sort of spell that really needs to be aimable to use well, so I don’t personally recommend it.
I’m having a hard time envisioning a scenario where targeting a group within an area would be a significant advantage over targeting an individual within the group
.
Having it as a cursor prevents the mistake of sending it to a mob that isn’t within a 8 yard radius of other mobs (maybe the tank is grouping and you mistakently select one of the mobs coming in) . But I have also sent AoE cursor drops on the ceiling before, so it might be better for a peon like myself.
There are two main ones.
The mobs you want to DoT haven’t spawned / become targetable yet, but you know exactly where they are going to appear. You can use Shadow Crash’s travel time to preempt them becoming attackable and DoT them as early as possible.
The mobs you want to DoT are grouped, but only loosely, or there’s a central mob with a large hitbox surrounded by smaller ones. You don’t want to target exactly 1 mob with Shadow Crash, you want to “Venn Diagram” it between as many as possible.
The flexibility is generally extremely relevant in more challenging content.
So it’s a design that only benefits top 0.1% of players in very rare circumstances. For everyone else it’s a nuisance. I agree.
Which is why if you want it to be less flexible but impossible to mess up you can talent into targeted shadow crash on the talent tree.
SWTOR has this choice for every AoE just by how you click.
Click once, get targeting circle to put where you want.
Click twice, it lands on your target.
