I really like the new talent trees but i feel like some of them really showers you in abilities for your rotations. I was comparing some speccs to how they were in WoD and alot fo speccs have had 25-40% increase in buttons to use in your rotation, and while im sure some people love it personally i prefer rotations with around 5-7 abilities. I really think some trees could make use of more choice nodes that let you choose between an active ability and a passive.
@Plzrespond - I agree totally. Too many abilities make the game less fun. Think of the greatest game from a historical standpoint: chess. You’ve only got 6 abilities: pawn, rook, knight, bishop, queen, and king. Probably want more abilities overall, but 6 for a rotation is enough, with maybe 6-12 supplementary. Vengeance Demon Hunter is probably the closet to perfection in this regard.
The less is more was so much better. Not sure why Blizzard felt the need to add bloat again.
I picked up a few abilities… But I’d take passives on my non serious characters
Some classes have button bloat cause of how their talent tree makes them take a whole bunch of abilities you don’t use.
Hold up, you guys are asking for classes to have like 5 buttons? How is that fun? The combat for this game is already extremely easy and basic and you want it to be even more basic? I’m so confused…
I thought that on my hunter , way too many things to press, no room for all the buttons. but when i started levelling hunter number 2 i decided to go with blizz recommended build. They only have me using 5 maybe 6 buttons and the rest seems to be passive and its working well.
gotta remember just cos you learnt these spells some of them arent even used so dont have to be on said active action bar
Because hitting a bunch of skills for minor damage does not feel as good as hitting fewer skills that have a bigger impact.
Reason I love fury warrior.
Remember back in Legion when they pruned abilities and people flooded the forums saying there were not enough abilities to put on the bar. Good times.
True, but it is kinda outta hand for some classes/specs now.
Not sure about what you took, but I consolidated a significant portion of my old castbar by amplifying certain abilities rather than taking possible ability…
Sometimes you have to pick an active ability in the talent tree that you don’t really want or need to use, just to get to another ability further down the tree. Don’t feel compelled to add those junk abilites to your action bar - just because you have them in your spellbook doesn’t mean they belong in your rotation.
Holy Priest got spells for days.
Considering I someday hope WoW becomes a console game, they would have to get rid of half of the stuff. Just too much.
That’s essentially the sum of it…
I didn’t put Whirlwind on my castbars for instance, since I already have Thunderclap with Blood and Thunder…
I’m not sure if there is a way for multi-function keys, much like how Escape From Tarkov has them:
- ‘Press Y’ allocated for checking a weapon
- ‘Release Y’ allocated for fixing a weapon jam
- ‘Double tap Y’ allocated for using alternate sight
Perhaps a multi-function key could be used dependant on your target?
- If the target is an Enemy; Charge is used
- If the target is a Friendly; Intervene is used
Or alternatively…
- If ‘Button 1’ is pressed, then Holy Fire is cast
- If ‘Button 1’ is double tapped, then Smite is cast
Ideas like that…
This should be pretty easy to achieve with a macro. Something like this:
#showtooltip /cast [harm,nodead] Charge; [help,nodead][@player] Intervene
(I don’t have a warrior to test this on but the concept works with other classes)
As you say the rotations are easy, reading a guide then playing it for a few weeks will make it 90% muscle memory and instinct. Adding more abilities just increases the learning time by a day or two. The question should be does these extra abilities make your character more fun to play, some will say yes some will say no. For example WW monk have spells for days uasing around 12-13 in their rotation but it works since they use the hit combo system but on the otherside you have something like WoD survival that used 6 abilities but they flowed really well into each other. When i play other games like witcher or skyrim i want the character i play to feel good to control i dont want ut to be hard for the sake of being hard.
What I don’t like is that the passive talents are less valuable than the active ability talents. I shouldn’t have to pile 15 abilities onto my bars to do max DPS.
I have 6. Cooldowns don’t count. I don’t have any class with more than 7.
Y’all like mind numblingly boring, watch Netflix while you aimlessly hit 4 buttons?
Geezus people are lazy and have no sense of engagement in this game.
