But how should we think about classic lore?

Should we pretend like the classic lore is canon and nothing was retconned yet, or like time travelers with knowledge on future?

It is as my character sees.

Teldrassil is corrupted, Fandral isn’t insane, Garrosh isn’t even a twinkle in the eye of the plot, the only worgen are beasts, the world isn’t cleaved in two, there isn’t even a hint of Old God manipulation until the AQ patch nor any Light shenanigans unless it’s a heal from a Priest or Paladin…

Oh man. I can’t wait.

Varian wasn’t around and Grommash wasn’t a piece of clefthoof turd.

Good times.

You have choices - see the lore as it is in the game, only.

You can see the lore as it was in 2006, with an expanded universe in the form of books, comics, RPG supplements, etc.

You can also see the lore as it is in the modern retail game, before the changes.

People, like roleplayers, may be split, and different servers may have different attitudes towards the lore.

And there’s going to be more than a few Classic players with the old “lolore” attitude.

and to really toss it up in the air, make a classic+ separate from museum classic, where chromie accidentally drops the temporal discombobulator while its set to classic era, and the end result is an alternate classic timeline, where the lore can go in whatever direction we need it to.

for example, we know eventually the horde out number the alliance by huge margins. this was the result of not only giving them the high elves, something many of them resented and still do because their faction is nearly 50% elves now, but also originally making horde racials to be offensive and alliance racials to be defensive, which eventually made the horde better at everything.

meanwhile, the alliance have been begging for playable high elves since vanilla. the lore didnt support high elves on the horde. the alliance has their own high elves that didnt follow kael’thas yet they aren’t allowed to play them (see silver covenant) because horde high elves were created instead.

and the horde have been asking for playable ogres as well, since vanilla.

there are zones all over the place that were started and never finished or made playable, such as karazhan crypts and emerald dream. and so on.

I’m an RPer and what I see is what I’m in, I won’t be part of any timetravel shenanigans, but I bet in whichever server turns into Moonguard people will be doing all that and more! Disturbingly more.

classic is a time travel shenanigan. hehe

I guess they had to tie it in somehow.

Everything is erased and we’re all just unknown adventurers concerned with the fate of the people in whatever village we’re nearest to.

i had the weirdest dream about future. There was Sylvanas as Horde leader. And literal titan was defeated by 20 nonames.

I still, to this day, don’t understand why they made him a bad guy. Talk about low hanging fruit.

Yeah that’s a nail on the head right there.

I had a very disturbing dream about the future. I was killed by Arthas and raised as a Death Knight. Then I killed him, broke free, became the supreme leader of all the Death Knights and defeated the entire Legion with the help of Illidan. At some point, before I destroyed the Legion, I travelled to this really creepy place that had talking, Kung Fu fighting panda people.

LOL, but like any of that could ever happen.

Then you wake up in classic, simple adventurer that struggles to save nearby village from wolves, they mauled to death you twice already.

Even in Vanilla he was super-pissy with everybody around him and ranting about “having vision that she (Tyrande) lacks.”

He had all the trappings even then.
