Does anyone else kinda hate Burning Rush? Like, it’s not too bad, just sometimes kinda annoying to deal with, and I often think about how I wish I really wish I had a movement ability that didn’t do damage to me. There’s been a few too many times in between pulls where I’m low health and my group uses all their movement abilities to zoom away and the healer uses theirs too to keep up with them and I’m out of healthstones and I either gotta sit there and cast to get more healthstones being even more behind, or just tough it out and hoof it slowly hoping I can keep up, maybe casting it for a few seconds just enough so it doesn’t kill me lol.
Is it just me, or do any other Warlock enjoyers feel the same?
It was, in the talent rework toward the end of S4 of DF.
The old talent to improve it would reduce the damage by 25/50% and, I think, increase its speed bonus by 10/20%. Now it requires only one talent point, but while the 20% speed increase remains the damage reduction has been reduced to 10%,
Seriously though, I like Burning Rush. It’s a strong boost of speed with no cooldown and no set duration. Run as long as you want.
Now obviously it needs to have some sort of cost. Since it doesn’t cost time, present or future, it was either going to cost HP or Mana overtime.
And I like it that it costs HP. Lorewise, Fel Magic is supposed to be dangerous, but for the most part this danger became an informed attribute. Casting Warlock spells has no chance to hurt you. Ever. That is kind of bad for the fantasy of playing a Warlock.
Burning Rush is the last remnant of that. It’s the only Warlock spell that’s dangerous to use. We lost Life Tap, we lost Hellfire, now Burning Rush is the last one.
Though I do understand that it causes friction with the Healers. As a Solo player I never run into that problem, but I also understand most people are not Solo players.
My advise as an external observer then is simple: We should always exercise empathy and avoid selfishness.
If you’re a Warlock, don’t be selfish and think of the Healers. Don’t use Burning Rush if you don’t absolutely need it and don’t forget to turn it off when you stop needing it. Use it only when needed and only as much as need it. Try your best to minimize usage.
And if you’re a Healer, don’t be selfish and think of the Warlocks. Understand that they need to take that damage for quick mobility, and take that into consideration. Maybe throw some preemptive HoTs their way when you know there’s gonna be some high mobility moments ahead, etc.
If it’s something that you cant use teleport for because you’re not engaging in an area you planned for or whatever, you can soulburn to remove the cast time on gate and instant cast then click. If you make a macro for gate to target @cursor then you can make the action a little faster. Probably just macro soulburn and gate together if you want as well
I think that’s the point. I like it because it is a very direct and obvious tradeoff; speed costs something, it isn’t just a periodic freebee. Plus the visuals and the elective distance. It cuts out when you decide you don’t want to die.
In addition to that nerf, it now also ignores shields and hits your HP directly, meaning the damage is no longer mitigated by Soul Leech like it was before the talent changes.
I think it is fantastic during fights if utilized correctly because your healer would much rather heal 5-10% missing health rather than getting hit by something and having to heal 60% missing health. Don’t forget to Soul Burn cookie so you can basically “Lay on Hands” yourself and also toss out the occasional “mortal coil” on bosses to heal back 20% HP. Goes a long way. Trust .
