Just refreshing everything and watching stock sites to find a 3080/3090. I’ve got a partially finished build sitting here waiting on it. Every blip of order cancellations gets gobbled up within seconds. It’s pretty frustrating.
I’m a sad Druid. I don’t really have anything to discuss, just wanted to vent after days of having these cards slip through my fingers.
The only silver lining is learning which cheapskates messed up their cards so I know to avoid MSI and Zotac.
It’s unfortunate that bots buying up the initial wave of new products to flip them for profit is going to be the norm now, until a means to make it harder comes around. I usually avoid buying the first wave of anything anyway, in case any major issues are discovered…like the capacitor issues going on now; all the third-party MFGRs that make Nvidia cards have at least one 3080 model that are affected, including EVGA, Asus, and Gigabyte.
I would not necessarily blame them 100% on the shortages. The cap/build issues fall on their shoulders but if their partners felt they had too many rtx 2xxx in the supply chain then they will sand bag production to help clear out old inventory without discounting it.
I was in this situation so I went to Micro Center and bought an EVGA RTX 2060. As soon as I got home I signed up for their Step Up program. I’ll get a 3080 for the difference in cost.
Still good that you did not get an early model since it seems some changes will be happening to allow the cards to work better. Maybe pick up a cheap older card to keep you going for a bit until things shake out.
