Build in dps meter when? Addons are cool and all but this seems like something that should actually be in the game.
Edit: Jumping judas… this thread is not asking about addons its asking about basic meters and information being put into the game. You can easily see what one hit killed you but thats about it.

It’s pretty crazy that the UI hasn’t really changed much since 2004. I think the whole thing needs a revamp. raider io, meters, etc are here to stay - it really should just be offically added so we can stop updating addons and everyone can have easy access too it

Yeah thats another thing, having to keep updating them every time. I know I have a dps meter installed, but it doesn’t work because the last time I used it was when I watched people keep exploding on malkoroth or whatever his name was.

Installing Recount/Details is super easy. Then to keep it up to date you just check on a new version, download, open and drop into addons folder. I use the twitch app and just click update on them and it takes less than a minute to update a bunch of them.
Thread wouldn’t exist if I just use addon.

then start using addon, been a thing since vanilla and at this point moddable ui is core element of wow
Why would they want to do any extra work?
Blizzard already spoke about it many times.
DPS meters for everyone means a griefing tool at best. Players are nerd about it, but not only Blizzard, but the best and foremost DPS addon developers all say DPS meters are not a good way of comparing player DPS, or XPS of any kind.
And again, load the UI with something not many people care about or want is just not smart. DPS meters are a tool for people who cares about it, only. It makes sense to be addon only.
Luckly Blizz understand that, and wont make some endorsement on a tool for people to base their flaming and stupidity on.

I know this might sound weird, but not everyone is obsessed about DPS numbers. Those that are, use an addon.
Idk just have an option to turn it off?
Thats just like. Their problem. Some of us would like to have a basic log of dps to fine tune rotations. Raider - io police can make sweet love to their hat.
Edit: And people with meters and raider io will still rage at you if you are 0.01 dps off of the “normal” so in a way you’re still kind of screwed if you can’t find tune. This is what makes it an important need.

If you’re a dps doing any sort of group end game content you’re gonna need a meter. It simply helps you play better. The first time that someone calls you out for your crap dps by posting it in chat you are going to either stop playing or get a meter don’t kid yourself.

It is understandable that people think only about their own minds when in a public setting. People are selfish by default.
But some people venture beyond that and understand that sometimes what is good for a person is detrimental for the whole community.
And also that some people are ignorant to the fact that not all DPS can be caught by an addon when it is not made by the one using it.
If you could only see your DPS in your UI, that would lead people to “force others to reveal their numbers” under the penalty of not accepting them. It has happened with other things like achievements.
All in all, you can blame this on the crappy community that this game has attracted.

Does the phrase, blow hard mean anything to you. I feel like you should be mi’lady white knighting somewhere on Reddit.
Yeah thats already happening. People are already demanding dps numbers. If you don’t have a meter or a score on some addon they will reject you.

DPS meters should be built in for sure. Raider io like system should be built in. But external similar addons should be allowed too. Better report - what happened to you, what killed you (like in LoL) is needed too.
If you dont like built in DPS meter - just dont use it.
The second they realize that you do not have any add-ons and at the very least a darn meter they will just kick you.

And Blizzard does not condone that attitude. If they added a meter, then it would be perceived as such.
Ad hominen says more about you than it says about me.
And that is as far as I go perceiving your existence.
