This isn’t another one of those “OMG THE NEW UI SUCKS, CHANGE IT BLIZZ!” posts. Now that that is out of the way I have a huge problem with the Edit Mode. Every time I try to move something, could be anything, and hit save it moves back whatever it was that I just moved, and it doesn’t save my layout. I can’t even import someone else’s UI if they share it with me. I’ve tried deleting my cache and temp files, removing all my addons and tried it on multiple characters. No matter what, the game will not save the position of where I have moved an element. I can share a video of what I mean if I need to. The only thing I haven’t done is delete the game and redownload it, which I don’t want to do (limited data and all that…) Is anyone else having this problem?
I had the same issue when I first started editing the UI. I created a new UI profile in the dropdown and it started working for that second one.
Here’s a video of what I’m talking about.
Was having this same issue, I believe it is an addon causing it. I disabled all addons, deleted the WTF and cache and it solved this issue. Currently I am running no addons other than weakauras, bigwigs/littlewigs, and details with no issues for now.
If you’re not running any addons, try just deleting your WTF and cache folders after closing the game and then re-open it.
Exit game.
Find your WOW Retail folder.
Rename interface to interface-old.
Rename wtf to wtf-old
Rename Cache to Cache-old
Restart game.
See if you can make any changes and try to save it.
If it works it means your addons or old config was causing the issue.
If it doesn’t work it might be you are not starting the game as administrator.
In which case make sure you do and try again.
If you have any 3rd party apps like raider.io client or anything like that make sure they are disabled, anything that hooks into your game should be disabled.
PS:
I just helped a guildie with this problem he wanted to move the chat window and couldnt it would go back to the corner when he moved it. So we reshaped the window first and logged out then moved it after he logged back in. This allowed the chat window to be repositioned.
NEW UI BUGS (Treating this as a UI bug megathread?)
Re: “Action Bar 4” – when this bar is displayed in it’s original position, the default location of the bags when opened is to the immediate left of the bar. (So you can see both the bags and the bar.) If you move “Action Bar 4” at all, when you open the bags, the bags now open against the right edge of the screen, covering the action bar. IN ADDITION: If you try to move an item in your bags, it will immediately pop “Action Bar 4” up to cover the rightmost column of bag spaces. (I had been trying to move “Action Bar 4” slightly up from it’s original location.)
Related to the above, if there is any part of an action bar which is behind the open bags, if you move an item in the bags, that action bar will come to the front and cover the bags.
Images to demonstrate the above:
https://ibb.co/ynXtVpT (the default position of open bags if Action Bar 4 is not moved)
https://ibb.co/XFnmF26 (the default position of open bags if Action Bar 4 is moved)
https://ibb.co/j482S28 (Action Bar 4 appearing on top of the bags when a bag item is moved – if Action Bar 4 has been moved. Also note in this screen cap how the bar I have put to the right of Action Bar 1 appears on top of part of the bottom of the leftmost bag on the screen – this happens even if Action Bar 4 is not moved.)
NEXT UI BUG
If you do not move your raid frames, the frames fill down as they did previously. If you do move your raid frames, the frames fill both UP AND DOWN from the top of the box you have set for them, which can cover UI elements at the top of the screen.
Also if you move the raid frames at all, but leave them near the left side of the screen, the flyout on the left side of the screen with the raid markers, etc, appears BEHIND the raid frames and cannot be interacted with. (If you do not move the raid frames, this flyout does what it did before and moves the raid frames over until it’s closed again.)
Apologies no photos of this.
You can move any element of the bags / microbuttons using the addon:
MoveAny (WIP):
https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/moveany
Once you have the bags located where you want it saves the location.
I know I can use addons to override the native UI but I have never used a UI addon and I’m not interested in starting now. So I am offering this as a bug report about the native UI.
I the suggestion, but this thread is in the hopes of not needing addons.
I will try this out and let you know if it works. Thanks for the help.
EDIT: Yes, this worked! I loaded the game without any addons in my addon folder too just to be sure. Now I’ll go through them 1 by 1 to see which one messed it up. Thanks
