Looking at Archon, SimulationCraft, and WarcraftLogs, it’s clear 11.1 Arcane Mage is underperforming compared to the other two Mage specs. Please consider taking a look at the damage of some of their spells (such as Arcane Orb) to see if things can be improved. Thank you!
arcane is like mini-fire in keys because their dmg sucks if they dont maximize mobs around their totm window. but half the pack will die in anything sub-11 at this point before totm times out so you just dont do good dmg
First week statistics paint a pretty grim picture for Arcane in season 2…
Methinks they’ll probably wait for RWF to be over before buffing arcane so as to not mess with the current comps
But yeah Arcane is looking down bad right now. Mythicstats showing DPS statistics in M+ is even worse, good lord: https://mythicstats.com/dps
Arcane mage was showing up dead last for most of last season. Except it was nerfed from “S+” to D, it looked good for the first couple of weeks.
They nerfed blast and barrage over and over and have abandoned the spec. I think both got 6 nerfs in total last season.
Let that sink in … Arcane was nerfed from best to worst M+ dps last season.
They changed the rotation on us 4 times this xpac so far.
Previously Ion had said that they did not want to change the meta mid-season because they knew it was not respectful of player time. And he has also said that they did not want to change the rotation too much from season to season.
Now, I have said this before and someone accused me of falling for the lie. This isn’t that. This is frustration that they say one thing and do another.
I don’t think they did this on purpose, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Arcane has 0 staff right now.
Frost isn’t doing much better - both Frost and Arcane could use some help in my opinion. I understand not everyone can be comfortably in top bracket of DPS but it’s kind of ridiculous the margins of which melee specs and dev evokers are crushing the poorer performing caster classes.
I’m of the opinion Arcane and Frost need a serious look at their talent trees to make improvements (Frost still has two talents that only work on targets that you can hard freeze, making them 100% useless in raids…), but at this point I’d be fine with just a numbers tweak to help us out until 11.2 or 12.0.
I also would argue the Intuition talent has failed. I jumped off Arcane because their rotation is just so boring now. Way too much Arcane Blast turret spam.
To be honest, I just want them to adjust the numbers to make us more competitive in AoE situations, I’d rather not see another rotation overhaul.
I’ve switched back to Sunfury, and in my opinion, the extra Barrage procs make mana management much easier. I was running OOM too often with SpellSlinger. With the new Jackpot! tier bonus, I’m actually enjoying the rotation, about a third of my damage comes from Barrage, while Arcane Blast only accounts for around 10%.
They just need to tweak the numbers. Even a simple adjustment to Arcane Echo, making it deal a percentage (15-20%) of the spell cast on the TotM target, could significantly boost AoE DPS. A 15-20% buff to Arcane Missiles and a 5-10% increase to Arcane Barrage would put us in a much better place.
No for sure, the whiplash for Arcane has been too much. They needed to slow down and do more thoughtful changes but they rushed things since they decided to remove the double dip. I’m not asking for a complete change to rotation per say, just another look at talents and to make the spec less of a Blast spam turret (i.e. bring us back to something closer to early TWW rotation). Even just a higher proc chance on Intuition would be something.
I mean sure I guess some people like slamming Blast over and over and over until they proc missiles and Intuition, but honestly to me it just plays like Frost but way slower and clunkier. Arcane Explosion is still pretty bad and the bottom-right chunk of Arcane’s talent tree is still DOA.
None of the mage specs look good on that graph lol
In fact, we currently need to cast less Arcane Blast than before.
I’d just like to add a thumbs up for this post, please have a look at Arcane Mage
Same, I support this. Arcane is super fun.
Arcane needs a fix, not a buff.
Im not gonna repeat myself, me and many others already suggested a couple of ideas that would actually work rather than buffing arcane barrage by an extra whatever %.
We are currently behind Aug in the raid, which is a very very sad thing to be
Arcane needs both. Perhaps a fix could be the buff.
Well, the fix would be a pretty big buff in itself. But yea i guess.
Honestly, what surprised me most about those numbers is how small the sample size was, not just for Arcane but across the board. In previous patches by the 3rd week there are usually hundreds if not a thousand or more players representing each spec in the new raid. Now it’s mostly just double digits.
It’s like no one is playing the game and honestly I can’t say I blame them. At this point I don’t see myself sticking around for this season and will probably bail even earlier than in did in season 1. The pacing has been extremely off with this expansion on top of all the other problems like the truly atrocious balancing and tuning.
That’s completely factually incorrect. We cast it so much because procs rates are so low it’s actually possible to run out of mana even with the set bonus and happens all the time without it if you’re not careful. I don’t remember ever having to cast AB as much as I do right now aside from BfA when Arcane was a 1 button meme spec.
In that case I agree with you – because arcane currently has both problems.
The single target rotation is boring to me now … we are just tracking buffs that make me feel like I’m playing a slot machine, and that means feeling like I’m losing sometimes.
Looking at the numbers, arcane is doing really poorly in both raid and M+. I have not seen an arcane in the RWF yet. In the past arcane may have been the worst mage for M+ but at least it was good in raid.
It feels like Blizzard lost an important team member or something.
Make sure your statement is correct before pointing out that others are wrong.
