So, the brokers run bazaars, are amoral merchants, general shady characters … we have Ana being Venari - who is an ARAB character in Blizz’s other games - then the vendetta against Venari with her hiding out in the Maw to get away from her fellow brokers with extreme positions and what not?
Arab bazaars, stereotyping, then having this general nasty impression of people who have this very Arab feel to them … all Arab culture being painted in a negative light. Which is gross because this garbage has been going on unchecked for the past 20 years.
Like come on. It’s 2021 - and we still have this racist stuff going on?
Why do I see it? Because it is my culture and it sucks to see us getting BASHED constantly in popular media literally without any repurcussions.
Its in this game, it’s real, it’s bigoted, it’s racist, and it sucks.
In b4 a bunch of people saying “Oh you’re being too sensitive”
No man. I literally grew up facing this hate - real hate and discrimination. Blizz is propogating it. It’s no better than blackface and minstrel shows.
I don’t see it as bigoted or racist (keep in mind I’m so white I’m pale).
I do see it as historically accurate in our world as Arabian bazaars were a common thing during historical times.
I never once got an Arabian vibe from them personally but I can understand how you may feel that way but racist I don’t see, celebrating historical real world cultures in a way that fits into the WoW universe is what I see it as (again this is from my so white I’m pale perspective) and that is a good thing.
I guess I look in the mirror and hate myself then. I know my culture when I see it because it is my culture. I know that accent that they’re mocking because half my damn family has it.
Mocking or celebrating ? much like how dwarves have a distinct accent etc. I think it’s a way to celebrate diversity by bringing it into the game through their highly talented voice actors.
