Broken UI Graphics after 8.1

After the patch, I logged on, and to my shock, the game’s visuals were broken to all hell. I saw black, scratchy textures all over the place, on trees, rocks, and everything. Player and npc models would occasionaly fluctuate with some sort of texture that I can only describe as being like static on a TV screen. There’s also weird moments when my game window pauses and it starts getting progressively whiter and whiter, like someone is messing with the color and light settings. The game doesn’t stop, and I can register that I am moving on the minimap.

I don’t really know quite how to describe this issue as it looks like so many things are happening at once. All I know is that up until 8.1, everything was fine and nothing like this has ever happened with my graphics. I run an old laptop with an equally old graphics card, but it has held up to the game time and time again, so unless it has finally fallen out of sync with the game, I don’t know what’s wrong. Any suggestions or help? Anyone have this issue as well?

my launcher just updated and now my game is saying my graphics card is out of date. i was playing less than 2 hours ago before this started happening to me

Mine doesn’t even say anything, just stops working and closes when I try to entry the game.

Yeah, I’ve gotten that message time and time again as far back as MoP or WoD, but the game ran fine throughout those expansions, even up to now in BfA. It’s just kinda weird how this all starts to happen now all of a sudden.

My game is soo pixelated. I know I play on a crap computer, but I can always play at a display for 3-4 which is fine for me. I can’t make out toon names, things on the ground. it’s crazy. It was fine last night.

Is it just after this new update? I hadn’t been getting “out of date” notices before until just today. I updated my driver using Blizzard’s instructions and everything is fine. Though I have custom graphics settings in WoW, and updating things seems to have reset my settings to default, so I had to go set them all back again.

Well, i get one of those driver messages maybe once every patch or every couple of patches. It has never interfered with my gameplay. I recently tried to update my driver, but it was already to the best of its kind, so idk what’s going on.

if your graphics card is bad enough, it may just not work anymore. but you might just need to update your graphics card driver. if you know your card, you can go to your manufacturers site to get the newest driver. if you’re unsure, you can post a dxdiag https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/12988 and we can find it for you.

I don’t think that’s the problem. Yes, it’s old, but if it was going bad, I would have noticed it having problems in the past. And since this has never happened in this capacity ever in my some years of playing, I don’t think my graphics card is causing it. Nor directly, at least. My game was still fine the night before the 8.1 patch.

There was a small patch earlier this evening that reset graphic settings to defaults and enabled DX12. You may want to set the game back to DirectX 11. The setting is found on Menu > System > Advanced.

Will see if that is an option. I was fiddling with the settings and options earlier, tho I might have missed this. [Edit]: It was set to DirectX 11 by default for me.

I was having the same issue, but Tratt’s solution fixed it. Now I don’t have to keep downloading weird intel updates. A true life saver, Tratt is! Much thanks, and respect!
