Here we are in a game with tons of balance changes happening to other classes in patches, or even expansions. I’d like to reference the Warlock changes that are happening in season 4 for balance updates, and the reimagining of Enhancement shamans when Shadowlands came out, and I think Shadow Priest changed aswell when SL came out too.
Look, Paladin class designer, Blizzard, or whoever is in charge of paladin class design and balance. I’ve had fun with this iteration of Paladin, but not as much fun as WoD ret, or MoP ret. I’m tired of my class changing for the worst, or being scared I won’t have the same amount of fun with my class and spec because you guys decide to change it before the patch is out.
I’m asking kindly, sincerely, and whole heartidely as a Paladin player since Burning Crusade, please. Please, just like how shadow was changed, just like how enhancement went back to its play style of a more modern mop class design, just like how warlocks are being balanced in a single patch cycle in season 4. Please, give us a modern version of WoD ret.
I do not speak for the community, but this is what I personally want. I want the control I used to have, the fun bursty moments using Divine Storm in a single target situation. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO MOVE IN PVP AGAIN, and not have a ugly horse to ride as my mobility cool down.
I’ve wanted WoD ret come back since we went to Legion. I feel like paladins are the red headed step child of spec and class design.
Here you go again boasting about Mastery, sigh. If you genuinely think the current Mastery we have is better than the one we had in Legion, please reroll.
Man, my biggest gripe is that I don’t really feel like a Paladin right now. Holy Power doesn’t feel right at all, it makes the class feel super clunky, Cavalier is just too boring and silly looking and there’s way too much physicality in our “spells”.
I’ve been leveling a Paladin in TBCC, currently at level 55 and you know what, even if the two coolest things I can do in the class is seal twist(unfortunately only with SoC + SoR for now) and CS, I feel 20x more like a Paladin fantasy-wise than I currently do in Retail. Summoning a sword from the ground doesn’t make any sense, wish I could at least glyph it into exorcism, Judgement felt better as a spell rather than yet another hammer throw and if the damned god forsaken horse of hell must stay then at the very least give us a glyph to just make our character run faster with a bunch of holy light spell particles around us.
Are you joking? Legion may have had many positive qualities, but class design (especially for Ret) was NOT one. The Pandaria/WoD era was the best time to be a Ret Paladin.
My whole point was that old WoW fulfilled the Paladin fantasy better than whatever it is we currently have, we are knights with priest training that adapted the Holy Magic to be used in addition to our martial skills. Summoning a LITERAL PHYSICAL SWORD out of the ground doesn’t even make sense in the established lore, whereas a literal spell in the form of exorcism does. Judgement has historically been a spell, what do we get now? A awkward flying T shaped pan. And don’t even get me started on the damned horse, yeah yeah, WC2 paladins were literal knights, but lo and behold, WC3 comes around and Paladins adapted to fight on the ground alongside their troops to inspire them in the battlefield and said fantasy carried over to WoW until randomly we started imagining horses out of thin air beneath us, we don’t even summon them anymore like we used to, they just spawn beneath us.
The biggest non cosmetic change I want from current paladin design, aside from obviously mobility, is something less clunky then combo points on a slow heavy hitting class, it feels awful being so damned haste depedant that we only start getting good towards the end of an expansion. Besides, it just doesn’t carry the same appeal as it does on the fast animations of ferals and rogues.
Yeah, WoD had so many good things for ret…I fondly remember empDivine Storm and its FV interactions. I liked Light’s Hammer and ES. We still had LAotL (man, how I miss this). Other’s would perhaps mention Exorcism (which I don’t really miss, but wouldn’t be opposed to get it back). The only thing on top I’d like would be MoP’s Aura Mastery.
This must be a very bad joke. Legion mastery was an atrocity.
I mean it is better, dunno what kind of argument you could even make up to suggest it’s not.
Leveling in Classic/BC as Ret is probably the worst experience you can have in the game, it doesn’t make you feel like a Paladin it makes you feel worthless and out of your mind bored. Seal Twisting is horrible gameplay.
MoP and WoD were leftover talents from other expansions, WoD had Empowered Seals and Final Verdict, big deal. Legion had Divine Hammer, Wake of Ashes, and an artifact weapon that was better than FV and ES combined. At least they tried to do something in Legion vs just running it back with the same stuff and maybe 2 new abilities. Sure Divine Steed and the mastery were trash but everything else was amazing. Sorry but WoD and MoP were just lazy reruns, not amazingly designed.
You can paste in some iconic things we’ve gotten since like new ES, Wake, FR.
Even old Final Verdict was better and Improved Divine Storm is also better than current Empyrean Power
Doesnt matter, they polished the design with every iteration and ended up with wod being the best.
So Legion only had 2 spells and conduits exactly like Shadowlands? Lmao. You’re complaining just to complain, MEH WOD ONLY HAD 2 SPELLS, OH WAIT LEGION ALSO ONLY HAD 2… The whole essence of Legion was trash, Divine Protection was changed to SoV. All our good mobility was deleted to be left out with only Divine Steed for 3seconds on 1min. Also they increased all the cds of our generator to slow the gameplay on purpose to force us to use our utility spell, but its during the same expansion they removed wog . So CS went from 4.5sec to 6. Judgement went from 6 to 10sec. Exo was pretty much every 6sec too with AoW. BoJ is a 11.5sec cd spell, most of the time AoW resets it when it’s at 1-2sec left. They also deleted HoW in Legion.
Tell me how Legion Mastery was an atrocity, especially compared to the bland one we have now. Tell me exactly how having an interacting Mastery is better and more fun than a flat % damage increase. Tell me how our Mastery was upgraded from Legion to BfA. And tell me how you would choose between Mastery and Versatility if it wasn’t for sims telling you what’s doing more.
Oh, it is extremely simple to make the argument about Mastery. The current Mastery could not exist and you wouldn’t notice it. It creates 0 interaction in your gameplay. Legion Mastery kept things somewhat interesting.
You just enjoy having a brained down rotation and it shows. You were probably stoked that we had to stop playing the one minute build this season for a full passive set up.
How about: no?
You are not interested in being convinced, you just want to make a fuss.
Legion ret mastery was widely despised for it being a liability more than anything else. Our current mastery maybe less interactive but it’s still light years better. Could our mastery be improved? Sure. But not by making it an inferior colossal smash clone.
Wod or MoP ret please and thank you. Miles better than what we have now. Though their are tidbits of recent design that I would keep.
Wake of Ashes, Divine Toll (including conduits that make it work), Final Reckoning and Execution Sentence.
Horse needs to go away, or give us a glyph to opt out of horse visual.
Retribution Aura needs a major overhaul.
