having pve servers for players who are afraid of pvp is fine, but why deny those of us who WANT random pvp? warmode is a substitute in the same way a picture of steak is a substitute for a meal. its just not the same.
was bad enough when they made ‘sanctuary’ zones. horde vs alliance was the entire fundamental premise of warcraft for crying out loud.
bring it back. i would actually pay munny to transfer to one.
edit - since people continuously offer the same amazingly insightful things over and over, and seem unable or unwilling to read the discussions that have took place here, let me sum up a few things in this post that HOPEFULLY at least some people coming to offer their two cents might read first.
one pvp server is being requested. isolated from other servers, with no shards or other cross server functions. with a single character per account limit, without being able to race change that character, or being able to transfer to the server, and not allowing the rolling of a new character of a faction with a 5% deficit in population, and players that have been inactive for 3 months or more not counting for this limit. this is to ensure faction balance, because when gamers are given the tools to ruin the game, they will.

while i would never play on unofficial servers, if i did spend 5 years on one i would have built a reputation as someone who not only doesnt gank lowbies, but enjoys hunting down those who do.

I support this idea…as long as you are trapped on your horrible servers and unable to cross realm for raids or dungeons (i.e. no escaping PVP)

There’s no “random” pvp.
All you will get is the same thing you’re seeing now. Squads farming for “sparks” or people swarming assassins marked on the map.
You can already have the same thing by going into any FFA zone when there’s a world quest up for any of them.

So the problem long and short has always been camping. Put some limits on it, any limits at all, and I’m for this. No limits and no thank you.
Bear in mind I am the ONLY one who liked the OP. (As of now.)
Here are the problems with warmode:
- It’s fundamentally a trick. You’re not only bribing low-geared people into being gank bait, but if they’re smart they won’t do it because the extra gold and anima simply isn’t worth the extra time. You can clear more quests and make more money by having warmode off.
- People shouldn’t be bribed into participating in the first place. They should participate because they want to.
- It’s free rewards for the dominant faction, while the underpopulated faction will simply not see rewards. I use my 71 Alliance character to get honour from chests because the Alliance always wins. No effort, just be the dominant faction.
- I can’t kill rares like this because all the other players are Alliance.
Here are the solutions:
- Don’t let people just flag warmode off. This is essentially PvP server now.
- Let people right-click and “pact” an enemy player, if they both do it they are friendly for one combat only. As soon as combat ends they’re enemies again. This solves the rares problem.
- Phase people so that AT LEAST SOMETIMES they will be the dominant faction, even if this means that after losing 6 chests in a row Horde gets an empty shard.
- A self-contained talent system with trees that allows even people bad at PvP to select the defensive tree and be very very troublesome to kill if they are attacked first. This is INSTEAD of the extra gold. You earn talent points by completing WQs. I’m not an NPC mob for you. If that’s the only option I’m just going to flag it off. Only if I might win will I play.

i love pvp, and would play exclusively on pvp servers if i hadnt been robbed of the option. and i still have warmode disabled because it isnt the same damn thing. and no, people who would play on pvp servers dont already have warmode enabled. i myself am proof that idea is fallacious.
as to limiting camping. in that experience i dont have on private servers, i saw the community come together all the time to crush gank squads that took over entire towns. and it was some of the best wow gameplay i never had. forcing people to defend their faction fosters community. you know, that thing that modern wow is COMPLETELY lacking.

You are the exception not the rule.
The only difference between warmode and a server is one is opt in. Large PVP servers happened to be where raiding guilds were so people had to choose to either play there or not be able to participate in high end PVE. Their removal and the only people in warmode are doing quests for PVE gains or leveling is enough evidence for me.

There it is. True colors came out.
You can use warmode. You are not denied. What you want is unwilling people to be involved. You cant hunt gank squads if there isnt ganking going on. What you want requires other people to have a bad time to facilitate it.

there could not possibly be ‘unwilling’ people on a pvp server, because they WOULDNT BE ON THE SERVER if they are unwilling.
why are you all so happy to deny other people something they want that would not affect you in any conceivable way?
