Bring back old players fix the lore

Consider bringing back the classic legends. Players seem weary of the current side quest narratives. The game has a lot of potential, and reviving the older characters could encourage previous players to return. There are many possibilities within the lore regarding resurrection or time travel. It might be beneficial to avoid portraying characters as lacking strength or capability. Additionally, there have been strong and wise heroic characters in the past, and many may wish to see them return.

You believe that players left because they don’t like the side quests? Do you see evidence of this somewhere?

IIRC, they left because of IRL stuff. They didn’t have anymore time.

This is a veiled “too much woke” thread, isn’t it?

No they clearly left because some all powerful NPC is no longer hanging around a capital city being all heroic and manly and an inspiration to us all :dracthyr_hehe:

Having a feeling or struggling with an obstacle to overcome it does not equal a lack of strength or capability.

I don’t know if OP was referring to Anduin, but a lot of discussions like this one generally crap on the young King of Stormwind for having a moment of doubt and despair in the BfA trailer just before he dug deep and found the strength to perform a mass battle rez followed by a gutteral war cry.

They also like to crap on Anduin for falling to pieces a bit after having been possessed and used as a tool to commit murder, and for questioning his own strength and moral character after realizing that part of him enjoyed having that much power.

You know…for being a human with human reactions.

At no point in the story has Anduin ever been anything but astonishingly brave, extremely selfless, and a rare talent. He is a priest, however, not a paladin, and for some reason, there is a huge chunk of the playerbase who will never forgive him for that or for having a character arc that is deeper than a basic revenge plot.

Edited to add: The short story about Anduin’s reintroduction to life outside of The Maw and then the campaign story in season one of TWW show the completion of that struggle and Anduin’s return to his connection with The Light, his bravery, and his confidence. It’s kind of a mirror of his father’s path, where he was absent from the throne and struggling against evil for a time before returning. Varian struggled mightily against his own demons after the trauma he went through, but it all happened off-screen during Vanilla, so everyone just forgave him for his natural human frailty.

Someone explain what the difference in side quests today vs vanilla. Im legit asking.

Seems to me its all just the same busy work.

The only difference I see is the ingame quest markers that point you to the objective rather than making you play hunt and find.

Honestly, side quests have always been - in my opinion - where this game does its best storytelling. I think some of the most memorable and engaging plotlines have been facilitated through side quests.

In Vanilla you couldn’t tell what was a side quest and what was a campaign quest.
In fact that didn’t come until quite a bit later.

Don’t worry, guys. I’m brave and willing to face the firing squad.

/ahem

I’m an old player (started in the last days of 2005), and I have always liked the lore.

Yes, I even liked parts of the SL lore. Yes, I liked most of the BFA lore. Yes, I loved the DF lore. Yes, I’m enjoying the TWW lore.

/puts on blindfold, faces the firing squad

I have no regrets for admitting it.

I enjoyed the recent Star Wars trilogy.

I still think I could have written a better fan fic of it, but I still enjoyed the ride.

Anybody who quit because of what Blizzard did to the lore and the characters is never coming back. Even if Blizzard said they were going to make changes (or made what appears to be changes), Blizzard simply has no credibility left, with such folks.

Yes! I think that, given the cards they’ve been handed (Carrie’s untimely death), I think they pretty much did the best job they could possibly in tying up the story in The Rise of Skywalker. Unironically my favorite of the sequel trilogy.

do you really think players who played 15+ years ago, who are completely different people now with different priorities are going to come back to play the game because they recognize the old characters

To be fair, a couple of my old guildmates actually did. They stopped playing WoW sometime in MoP, and then came back for DF because they liked the trailers. One specifically told me, “I’m back because of the characters I saw in the trailers. I’ve always liked the dragons.”

that’s not very UwU of you OP

Why do you hide your profile? I wanted to see your mog!

You still can.
Their forum profile is hidden – Their character profile, is not.

See

Here you go! I wish hidden profiles didn’t make armory access limited too. They’re entirely different.

Also, here’s a screenshot of Visage transmog. I changed the belt, though. Because the rune color doesn’t match the purple set. So I used the belt you see in Drac form.

I only hide it, because there are crazy people who like sitting and watching me type, responding with “Y U TYPING SO LONG?! U WRITING A NOVEL??” It got annoying so I just hid it. lol
