Make them expansion specific with cool unique transmogs.
People loved this feature… I really dont understand why you didn’t build on it.

Like most things in wow, people love it in retrospect. I vividly remember how much people whined about it at the time.
I do agree though, I’d like to see something like it come back, but I’m not looking forward to the “bring back X because it’s not fair I didn’t get it posts”
Because they are short sighted. They had the perfect opportunity with Torghast, but they abandoned it in 9.1. They could have done something with visions in BfA but they didn’t. Could have even built on the mage tower, but they didn’t. Everything they make is for one expansion use and then abandoned the next.

They should have done something similar in BFA but all we got was the 5 masks achievement and a title. Very disappointing.
Challenges like that with limited time mogs give a fun goal to achieve it should be something recurrent.

And pretty much everyone hates Path of Acension.

Because ppl are still crying to this day over not successfully completing mage tower appearances.
I was thinking about this the other day too.
I bet next xpac we get a race, class or other feature we’ve been asking for forever because Blizz can maximize its value right now.
The solution is you make a new challenge with better looking mogs. Do you see many Topics about WOD weapons ? Me neither.
Cool and unique transmogs is part of the request. Neither of those have that.
In any case, to the OP, Blizzard almost never adds in something in a way that was successful when first introduced. Legion artifacts were the best version of borrowed power, and they horrifically botched and mutilated that with Azerite and Covenants.
The Mage Tower had actual decent challenges and rewards, and they botched up Visions and Torghast.
It’s pretty par for the course of when they strike gold, they decide to try somewhere else instead of digging more into the vein, sadly. It’s a Blizzard staple to mess up.
I’d like it if I could do it as my character. I imagine people dislike it because they have to control NPCs. At least that’s why I dislike it.

They open that can of worms there will be a ton more retired items they would have to bring back as well. Which I doubt they ever will.
You want the mage tower so badly, just wait for Classic Legion to roll around.
I would rather see them put time into a new challenge mode, with limited items.
What you miss out on in an earlier expansion, should teach you what not to do in the next expansion when limited timed items happen.
They said when its warranted theyd do it. Meaning when they have an idea it really jives with ie artifact skins or the warlock thing

Still missing the cool and unique. The masks were the same masks without the hood in BfA (and no, removing a hood does not make it unique. They were also very uncool, they don’t look good on a single race.
The shoulders are pretty much the same as the tier sets with small differences. Unique, I suppose, but still missing the cool factor.
None of these rewards are even a tiny candle compared to the high quality and uniqueness of the Mage Tower skins, in particular the Druid forms.
But I know, you can’t say anything against Blizzard so beyond this response, discussion is pointless.
