Whoa whoa whoa! That would require people to get gold, and apparently if these forums are evidence of anything, that’s the hardest thing in the world, despite the yak being with you forever xpac after xpac and easily being one of the most useful things to spend gold on.
Franky, if it was an option before, any changes they made should not have been approved if they removed functionality. If they did it before they should be able to re-implement it if desired.
That said, I think it makes logical sense to have “hide” options tied to Transmog. The only reason they had standalone menu options before is because Transmog didn’t exist. It’d be weird to have transmog in its own window but then certain transmog… in a separate interface options section somewhere.
It’s just a bit unfortunate that Transmog applies to the item instead of the slot (therefore requiring frequent trips during leveling and early endgame gearing) and also requires interacting with specific NPCs.
If Transmog was just a button or tab as part of the UI, the loss of the Hide Helmet/Cloak toggle boxes wouldn’t matter. If Transmog applied to the slot instead of the item, it also wouldn’t matter, because you could just set it once and never change it if you don’t like Helmets.
(But I understand the item vs slot thing is probably because Blizzard wants it as a gold sink)

They just need to do transmog how Swtor does it. You create an Outfit that is applied to the slot not the item and therefore you can change your gear as necessary and your transmog stays the same. They also have hide / unhide helm as well so you can either have a transmog helm and choose whether it’s shown or not or not transmog at all.
If they just made it apply to the slot and not the item with a hide / unhide we’d be good.

Any time someone asks “why don’t they?” the answer is invariably “money”.
Arrangers are temporary, yak is forever.
I’m just pointing out the other option that exists for those who don’t have a mount yet or can’t afford it.
