The free clone is the one that you chose not to take and instead went to TBC.

Make sense. Because blizzard knew 99% of the people would go to TBC and just spend money on their char. They knew they could milk. Or thought they could milk everyone at least XD.

WoW Classic was meant to be a thing for community. I do remember that being said at blizzcon.
But even Classic they tried to milk anywhere they could.

And no I didnt clone mine, I went to TBC and WOTLK. Like you I wont be getting my vanilla character back. Which I dont mind since vanilla is boring anyway.

When the TBC pre-patch dropped, you had to choose between going to TBC and remaining in classic era. This choice was free.
You chose TBC.

Blizzard like everyone else i didnt bother cloning my char so let me buy T3 chars along with R14 weapons and gear, why pick it up where i (choose to) stop if i can just buy everything? You will make money and every opportunity to make money you should not ignore at any costs. I mean my retail char has r14 mogs why cant my classic char have them too? I think it will look nice!

It was in the news emails.
I checked and definitely had news letters and updates unchecked. Thatâs on me.
There was an email, there was notification on these forums, wow facebook page, wow fan facebook pages and pretty much all pc gaming websites that has WoW news covered it. 600 days was given to use the service. This one is on you.

I have given it a bit of thought as to what more Blizzard could have done and if people werenât subscribed to newsletters then there isnât really that much they could have done as sending an email to everyone would be against the privacy laws. I canât remember if anything appeared on the launcher.
Obviously an ingame notice wouldnât have helped either if people arenât playing, and if people didnât look at gaming websites or the forums then thatâs about all they could have done.
