For the love of god just bring back cloning let people clone their chars like you did in the past. Whats the big deal?

It was for the transition from ‘Nilla’ to TBC, not Wrath, the expansion “Classic” is currently in.
They terminated the service as a result.
They deleted the data.
That might have something to do with it, I dunno. The fact that a small subsection of players wants it back now means they made the right decision at the time.
Alot has changed since the clone happened, For one they merged all regional pvp servers together.
Some people copied their char to tbc because their server died with tbc launch no1 expected classic servers to get merged and pop off after wrath.

While they may have a snapshot of the DB that was storing character data that is appropriate for cloning, this has nothing to do with code or git (version control system).

Yeah they’re gone like the official classic servers rememeber thats what blizzard said? 
Everyone knew that the classic code was available because there were open sourced versions that private servers used for years.
The data in a database is a different issue than code. It takes a lot more storage to hold the data for thousands of toons than it does to store the entirety of classic.
false private servers we’re and still are completely broken and buggy keep talking about how private servers are an exact copy of classic with no bugs 
i highly doubt they just “deleted” it.

Assuming this is true, they would still have to decide that going through all that trouble is worth their time. It probably isn’t and they know it. Which is why they were careful to note it was a one time deal.
Looks like things like cloning, fresh Era servers and TBC Forever realms had to be sacrificed for Wrath because 99% of people wanted it that way.
I’m not sure how many toons there were, how much storage each one takes, and what db they use - but it could easily be in the thousands of dollars per month of storage costs to store the all the available characters for copy.
In their perspective nothing was deleted all the toons either went to progression servers, to era only, or made a copy during the few years it was available.
It would have been a hard case to justify spending that money considering the demand at the time. How long should they have continued to store such data?

In all honest if anyone sincerely believes that the removal of the service in the first place wasnt just just a FOMO tactic they have a fairly strong supply of copium…
One of the key issues alegedly surrounding the development of classic in the first place was the lack of server backups, and the claim here is that they then decided to delete backup data a year after going through the drama of not having sufficient backup data… yeah something doesnt addup here lol… blizzard has the data, and they need to bring the cloning service back immediately.

It was around for over 12 months for players to access.
Yea i think people likely realized their mistake with WOTLK at this point. Rose tinted glasses for sure. Too late? Probably so. But living with regret is no way to live.
How many alts do you have? Just so I can know how many more of the exact same post to expect ?

Dont stress mate the character cloning service is coming they have the data 
we just need to keep up the requests and let them know the demand is there it might take a little bit but its only a matter of time before our characters are returned to us.
Blizzard please let us have our characters back, bring back the cloning service
