Can we please bring back learning spells and class quests has we level in shadowlands? I like the immersion of learning from masters until you become a master.
At this point they might get rid of profession trainers.

I’m on board with class quests since they can provide that extra flavor to whatever class you’re playing… But it’s not fun to be on a leveling streak and having to go back to a main city and learn spells. There’s a reason why the game moved away from that. It’s tedious.
Yep. Most players have a very low tolerance for tedium for “immersion” or RP’s sake. Contrary to a vocal minority on the forums anyways.
I expected some glorious quest to get my Pally mount in classic. It was kind of “here, take this” and done.
A lot of the content of the past is more flavorful/immersive than actually well designed. It’s a gray area between flavor and tedious though, like how some quests are like “Hey I have this quest for you…and the objective is as far away from me as possible”. Some quests are practically just walking back and forth between two people, like the Undead one between the Lich and the NPC in Undercity. And just ask any shaman how they feel about totem quests.
Classic is designed to be far more time-consuming than anything really is on Retail, if you really boil it down the whole reason Blizzard has artificial time-gates is because they stopped actually gating the content through in-game means (attunements, gold, reputation, grinds, etc) and streamlined design so that it was efficient and flowed properly which made all the content easy to consume quickly.
Why not add a toggle for people like you… I rather not hearth every level or two…
Could you elaborate on how this worked for those that are new?
I’d take it tbh
If they actually expanded on them as tutorial test zones, i would be okay with them.
I always wanted a infinite resources test ground. As well as no cooldowns as well.
For what question specifically?
Your suggestion.
I started in BfA so I have no idea what you mean.
You used to have to visit your class trainer to learn your new spells as you leveled up. Instead of your character just automatically learning some new spell out of the blue like they do now, you had to visit your trainer to “teach” you these spells. Well, really, you had to buy them lol.
Every class had class quests as they leveled up too. They were unique to your class and maybe rewarded you with some unique gear or a new spell.
Idk if I want to go visit the class trainer every few levels, BUT I wouldn’t mind having some major spell be “taught” to us every 10-20 levels via a small class quest or something. I think the class halls from Legion were pretty positively received and could be a fun way to keep that kind of stuff going.
Darn it cost gold?
If you don’t mind why would you miss that? Is it a nostalgia thing?
During classic to Cata, spells were not learned automatically. Every even level, you went to a class trainer to learn or rank up your current spells. They also provided you with quests has well to learn some other spells and give you really good gear for your level.
Yeah - I guess a little. I doubt anyone misses the gold cost (they could be quite hefty relative to how much gold you made at the time!), I think some people just liked the immersion concept of it. You’re a lvl 10 rogue and having a “teacher” train you in these new skills rather than just learning them randomly.
More of an immersion thing. The cost doesn’t matter to me, it can free for all I care. Modern WoW has an issue that the player is the all mighty chosen one that is unmatched and the automatic learning reinforces it.
I don’t mind class quests but I really dread thinking about going back to learn each rank of a spell. Then again with the downsizing of our spellbook it might not be that bad but still I really don’t like that idea (sorry ).
I would love a bunch of class quests for sure as I mentioned above
@Bloodfall also
Ahh right, I like the idea of initially learning a skill from someone but maybe mastering level 2 and 3 myself.
The gear that comes with it reminds me of the gears that monks get every 10 levels with the class training.
Perhaps they could do that for all classes to help acquaint people with their skills.
Make the NPC teleport to us like they did in Legion with the class quests and i’m down.
I thought I would hate the return to class trainers when I started playing classic but I’ve found them really enjoyable and immersive. I surprised myself.
I’m leveling a hunter alt there now and every other level feels more like being in a world where I return to the city to train, buy arrows, cook or buy food for me and my pet, buy water, maybe work on a profession, train my pet, then head back out to adventure more.
With SL leveling maybe is too fast to return every other level, and too many QoL features that pretty much eliminate all the items I described above, but I wouldn’t be opposed.
