Bring Back Archaeology

In light of the extended maintenance, figured id pop this bad boi in.

The past couple weeks, we’ve dived into the new content of The War Within, I wanted to make a case for the reintroduction of the Archaeology profession.
Given dragonflight and the war within expansion’s focus on history, exploration, and the intriguing lore of dragons and the new Earthen allied race, I believe Archaeology would be a perfect fit for the past two expansion.

Looking at just The War Within, the Earthen are all about discovery (hence their racial buff). The Earthen race, with its deep connection to ancient history, and the prominent role of Brann Bronzebeard—our lovely delve diving, history seeking, somewhat annoying 1-liner dwarf—make a decent case for the return of Archaeology. This profession would enhance the expansion’s theme by allowing players to actively participate in uncovering lost artifacts and ancient mysteries from the Nerubian Empire, the Earthen Race, and the new zones! I feel the we’ve skimmed a bit of historical lore with the nerubian hologram chests, but id like to see even more~ This added layer of storytelling could enrich the narrative and connect us more deeply with the new zones we’re exploring/explored. (Assuming blizz storytelling this expansion remains consistent with whats previously been done)

Another reason id like to see it reintroduced is to simply add gameplay. While action-packed content is always exciting, Archaeology offers a slower-paced, more immersive experience (something i could have done while waiting for M+ release). Its somewhat a refreshing activity and can cater to players who enjoy lore and exploration. Considering we are getting more involved with “single players” content, reintroducing Archaeology could attract these solo players with more things to do.

Additionally, the core mechanics and infrastructure for Archaeology already exist. Sure, blizz would have to have a few dedicated members to make new artifacts/loot, but for the most part, the entire profession is already constructed. Why not build upon it.

Thanks for coming to my WoW Talk, yall. Enjoy your day, fingers crossed for epic loot from the weekly vault!

I’m really tired of Blizz adding in this other crap like Archivists and claiming “it’ll scratch that itch for Archaeology,” when it clearly doesn’t.

Revamp the system a bit and put it back in game! Stop shoving out half baked horrible events with crazy failed archeologists who made up their entire “history” they dug up as if Archaeology is a joke and deserves to be belittled.

Archeology and Inscription are the two professions they want us to forget. It made sense sort of that it wouldn’t work in Shadowlands, but it would have been fun in DF and TWW.

At least it gives engineers a feeling that they aren’t the most neglected. :woman_shrugging:

Devils advocate:

You barely scratched the Archaeology achievements that are already in the game. Go do those.

Hopefully, unless the Brits get a whiff of it.

I know right… seems like they have no clue what to do with the profession when there are many outlets of inspiration to redo it and bring it back. I don’t care if it is a cheesy Indiana meets Tintin spoof.

Yes!

I used to level my one toon almost entirely through archaeology, because I enjoyed it and it was so relaxing for me, now I’ve had to switch to pet battles. I miss the achieves, the cool treasures, the little bits and pieces of further lore…

My mind goes off the hook when I think of all the things that could of been in DF & TWW with archeology.

TWW is back to the OG Warcraft story, right?

We are in the thick of Azeroth, SO I can’t see why we can’t have artifacts on nearly everything and anyhting from old world, esp., Titans and the old gods. Plus, the new old stuff- Earthens, Delves, Dornagol, Worldsoul Saga, Harbinger of the Void, Xal’atath, Quel’Thalas, and whatever lived under Azeroth before we came a long in the new zones, like the Nerubians.

Plus, we are inside the planet, we should get something about Azeroth right?

There’s opportunity for whatever artifacts that archaeology left out too.

Side note- The trilogy almost seems like the end of wow, or a wrap up of all that has happened, and maybe a beginning of a wow2… idk just thinking

Artifacts should just be falling form the ceiling and out of the walls.

Didja read my comment earlier today about possible Archaeology Rares?

I think it is a good starting point that if I was a blizz employee I would rip it off and claim it as my own.

idk why they didnt decide to in df, it was the perfect time
