Bring back Archaeology

It was such a nice profession to do when not questing, fighting, fishing, etc. Blizzard missed the boat in Shadowlands and now in Dragonflight. Bring back archaeology

We’re going to the dragon isles with each factions’ archeological groups, in order to do archeology. It seems like a bad joke that they didn’t think this was the time to bring it back.

Same thing with Korthia. Saw the theme of it and thought “oh cool they’re going to bring Arch back!”

Nope.

But… it was incredibly boring and repetitive. :man_shrugging:

In fact, as soon as you’ve done one dig site, you’ve experienced everything there was to Archaeology.

Lmao, you’re right - I hadn’t considered that :joy: Lmao.

Though, the pass few years it seems that Blizzard want as little amount of employees doing as mild enough effort henceforth as little payments to their workers as possible, so they can decrease quality of the product but increase the value & profit from it for themselves. :man_shrugging:

… I’m hoping with the recent controversies that Blizzard put a bit more value & investment to this expansion to reel in old players and bring in some fresh ones, for a good decent game with great content - but I’m not holding my breath.

I think the same way about raiding, personally.

Maybe there should be multiple things to do in game, to appeal to different people.

Because Archaeology is as complex as raiding.

No, Arch needs a rework, which Blizzard has said they’re doing. Good, let it die and let it be reborn.

I didn’t say that, now did I?

You’re assuming they ever actually rework it, and it doesn’t just sit dead on a to-do list somewhere.

You compared the two when they’re nothing alike. Also, raiding is getting reworked too, so your example is doubly bad.

They did. They’ve added onto it. It was still flawed. A terrible foundation ruins what ever it could be.

Archaeology was a win win.

I wasn’t crazy about it but I liked having more easy bars to fill up. Making the digsites was probably more work than what they had time for (especially with all the stuff that has been going on these last few years) but they didn’t have to make so many digsites. They could have made like two per zone of existing categories and it would have been good enough.

They kind of overworked themselves with the amount of digsited they added imo:

They have to go in, set up the digsite structure, add the point to the map rotation and minimap, make sure there are enough objects for a little diversity in the digsite, make sure each object has coordinates that don’t clip or make the object ugly, etc. Way more work than most other professions. I am not surprised they got rid of it though I enjoyed it (and I still enjoy WoW without it).

For SL arch, they would have needed to set up new arch categories, new relic items, new treasures to make, new achievements, etc. It’s just a ton of work. And I don’t think enough players really LOVED archaeology to make it worth it. I think that people who want the archaeology feel can visit old worlds, I get it that it’s disappointing not to have a thing you like updated, but it’s close enough to the same thing for me to accept it.

Yeah def doesn’t make sense not to have it, maybe they add it in the .1 patch.

I never really got into archeology, I thought it was neat and reminded me of looking for mining, wood, etc from Asherons call 2 so it was a little nostalgic cause that’s the game wow killed before I started playing wow.

I do think it would be great for a dig site to become a legit dig site and maybe you have mini games with digging, brushing, etc to do there or something that can take up a good 15 min or time. Maybe sometimes you find a rock, maybe sometimes you find a sick weapon transmog for example.

Maybe you can even uncover the entrance to a solo dungeon or a team of 3 can discover one. Lots of possibilities.

Archaeology is a fun (but not important) profession. Blizzard should have kept this since many like to do this and enjoy mounts, pets, etc.

I really don’t understand where Blizzard is going with world content. I have a hard time even speculating about why they are making the decisions they are making.
