10 man raids are better for a seasonal server like SoD, and here are my thoughts as to why:
Simply put, raids are more enjoyable with smaller groups. 10 mans allow for more all guild groups, or groups of just friends and family.
It’s easier to get gear when raid sizes are smaller.
Most of us are older, better employed, and with less time overall to deal with forming a raid group of 20-40 people. Keep season of dads casual friendly.
Difficulty should come from the content, not in forming the raid or dealing with the toxicity typically encountered from large raids involving pugs.
To wrap this up, I’m writing this post to make my opinion known to the SoD development team. You guys have done a great job with this new game mode and it’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing WoW. I know some of the community will disagree with me and that’s fine, I would just like to see SoD remain casual friendly especially as we enter the end game.
I’d rather see a 2nd dungeon difficulty like heroic dungeons but they’re 10 man. Leave the raiding as large groups raiding. Maybe add a new raid of 10 man only like kara crypts
I’m inclined to agree overall, but larger raid sizes I think can also be fine as long as you can basically just stock up on warm bodies. Loosen the ratio of healers needed, avoid class requirements… the thing making the larger raid size particularly hard IMO is that on Jammal’an weeks everyone needs priests for dispells and there just aren’t enough to go around. Same thing happened in Gnomer even with the 10p size because everyone wanted Meta locks for bombs. Same thing happened with priests & melee in phase 1 for Kelris dispells & meeting the DPS check on his enrage phase.
If a 20 person raid still only needs like 2 healers rather than ~4, and doesn’t require more than like 1 of each class, I think that would make it a lot easier to pug it. You can have your raid core, whether that’s 8 people, 10 people, 14 people, whatever… and stock up with basically anyone geared enough. That would be ideal IMO and take the pain out of bigger raid sizes.
Debatable / subjective. I’m having fun in 20 person as well, the unfun part is spending more time spamming LFG/Trade to fill out the comp.
Absolutely. I think if the raid comps had a lot more wiggle room it would make it easier to fill out big raids. But when you have 20 groups trying to fill priests and only 3 priests looking for groups… it’s a bad time.
I don’t think that’s really relevant. The game shouldn’t be specifically designed with the assumption that people don’t have time to play it. Like sure don’t time gate stuff behind playing 10 hours a day but rewarding time investment is totally fine. The time just shouldn’t be spent spamming chat, it should be spent progressing your character or doing cool stuff as a group.
The moment that a “hard” fight in a 10 man is Easier or laughable by stacking more ranged or melee, that becomes the meta and then it screws over the other. Saw this with gnomer and Electrocutioner. 10 mans don’t allow for much flexibility. 2 tanks, 2 heals, 6 dps, however this one fight is really hard to do unless you have more ranged? make that 6 dps consist of 5 ranged and 1 melee, for the entire raid, every raid. It’s the players mentality that they have to min max everything because they saw a streamer or a youtube video.
The reddit strat can be done with any (IE six melee) raid comp as long as you have two healers who aren’t brain-dead. If having two people do a mechanic is too complicated, all you need is two ranged DPS on top of your two healers and you can do a strat where only one players is moving at all.
Please keep in mind i’m talking about the whole playerbase, there’s a lot of players who don’t understand anything let alone boss fight mechanics. I wasn’t saying I found it complicated.
This was said with the mentality of the average player.
Honestly, if they’re wiping for that reason to Electrocutioner, raiding probably isn’t for them.
And yes, I know that are boomers, my old pops was the type of player to die to basically every single mechanic in BFD, but honestly I don’t think SoD was a good fit for him. Raids should have mechanics, and you should die if you can’t do them. These are very, very elementary mechanics.
