Anyone had any success as a brewmaster in bgs or arena? I’ve never seriously pvpd before but this xpac is so fun now I want to try it all. Any tips for brew pvp?
I haven’t PvPed in SL yet, I just hit 60 and I’m still trying to get all the required PvE done. But I’ve PvPed on BrM in Legion and BfA. I’ve only done random BGs and War Mode. I don’t like the Arena format. If rated BGs become a thing this xpac as many are predicting due to the conquest change for PvP gearing, I’ll be looking to get into those.
Crowd control and area denial is where the BrM shines in PvP. You can wreak havoc on an enemy team trying to grab the flag, capture a node, or make it across the field with a flag by using Ring of Peace, Mighty Ox Kick, Incendiary Breath (plus Spitfire talented), and Double Barrel.
This same CC, plus your mobility and creative use of transcendence can also be used to make you a fairly decent flag carrier. This same CC can be used to peel for your healers and ranged dps in your backline.
For self-sustain, Healing Elixir is a must. Get as much Crit and Vers as possible. Crit is for Celestial Fortune procs on your heals (Healing Elixir, Vivify, Gift of the Ox). Versatility synergizes well with this as well as having the obvious benefits from damage reduction.
Remember to Purify. Purifying Brew is your active mitigation. If you’re not purifying, you’re taking full damage. Under the Bfa system, I would save most of my brew charges for PB, and only use ISB when Guard was up.
In SL, I’m planning on using what I’ve been calling an “Elusive Brawler” build. I went Night Fae for the soulshape ability, and I’m planning on making heavy use of the Escape from Reality legendary. I was considering Venthyr for the Door of Shadows ability which can have two charges from a soulbind. Having Z axis movement would be cool but since it has an interruptible 1.5s cast time, I think it would be harder to pull off in many PvP situations.
Monk tank is actually pretty good in Battle grounds, I do it a lot.
Monks are the worse by far tanks in any bg. Shuffle is trash when most of the comps your fighting are ranged in RBG.
If your goal is random casual no reward and no care fun then have at it. But if you are trying to gear or trying to climb rating every other tank is light years ahead of brew.
You are actually more mobile and more tanky in pvp as a WW with Karma, ring of peace, and fortifying brew than you are with a brewmaster who doesn’t mitigate damage you just delay it (That’s is how shuffle works, you get hit for 100 damage you take 40 now and then 60 on a low payment plan but your still eating all 100 damage purifying just can not eliminate it enough because it is a % based ability, all other tanks just outright mitigate it, they block 40% and its gone completely)
tldr: casual fun go for it, after all it is your $15/month but rated you will end up frustrated when you get trucked and benched or if its arena when your partner signs off and doesn’t come back.
I have to disagree with this guys sentiment, while also agreeing with shuffle comment. Realistically getting pegged by ranged attacks means your taking full damage if your not in the thick of it brawling out the front line. The mitigation is only viable through melee combat, however this does not make the class bad. Brewmaster has the benefit of being the absolute king of peel and objectives. Just on AG alone, you can peel for flag carriers and be their watchdog. We have spinning kick for a stun, a talent for another 3 second stun, disorient, which can be take to the next level with your talent, allowing your fire breath to proc on spinng crane kicks, and applying the effects. furthermore, you can spec deep into pvp type of conduits for utility, like giving paralysis a MASSIVE slow when it expires or breaks. On top of these tools, you have the BOOT which just absolutely reks anyone trying to play objectives.
TO TAKE THIS EVEN FURTHER, you can get a legendary that will give you TWO charges of keg smash, with your talent that turns keg smash into a stun every 40 seconds, youll feel good (not to mention the 30% increase in damage on the keg smash x2). One last padding, you can get take the pvp talent which applies a percentage of your stagger damage to anyone in melee range of you, so if you can really play the spec well, youll be able to dump your stagger damage after being pelted by ranged classes onto your target.
Pros
- Massive arsenal of disruption and crown control
- Arguably the best peeling class in the game
- Plays objective based battlegrounds through mechanics of the class instead of just Holy Trinity gameplay
- Moderate to High AoE damage, depending on who you are and your items / talents, just in mythics alone im doing 2.2k dps as brewmaster.
- You are menace to the enemy team if you have any healer tagging along
Cons
- Bad 1 v 1 potential against all ranged classes, unless experience is the only factor in the fight.
- Little to no burst window outside touch of death, you are likely not going to be 100-0 anyone in a few seconds
- You are sitting duck a beautifully easy target when you are out of position (if you are caught just waddling around or running through areas by ranged classes kiss your butt good bye)
Honestly, you will probably only see real success with premade groups in BGs. I think it takes a real team to utilize the BM in BG, otherwise your just gonna be doing alot of nothing. If you have real coordination, maybe even with just 1 other person, you will see lots of success, just always keep in mind this spec isnt designed to brawl and class with PVP specs, but it gets the objectives taken care of like no ones business.
Yeah I’m all about the shoulder leggo… but 50 runs into sanguine depths and haven’t gotten it to drop. RIP me
I don’t find brew any good in pvp, especially when you have WW and MW that are both great.
I play BG with my friends daily, I promise if you have a team to speak to, verbally, you will face roll. The CC brewmaster puts up is hilarious annoying, and not everyone has their pvp trinket right now. I was peeling our healer and our hunters, no one could touch them as long as I was a around. Ox kick is a busted stun disguised as just a displacement move. Your target is throw backwards SLOWLY. it takes a full 3 seconds for you to get control of your character again, hunters and mages love it, 30 second cool down. You have a 3 second disorient up almost all the time as well. Its probably the best support spec in the game for BGs if you have a proper team
You don’t have to be in melee in order to purity, and as long as you are able to purify, you won’t be taking full damage. And on top of that, you can still beef up your absorb shield from Celestial Brew without a target right in front of you.
Having Shuffle in the mix makes things better, but you’re not helpless without it. With Prot Paladins now requiring Holy Power for Shield of the Righteous, Monks and Vengeance Demon Hunters are the only tanks that can actually start their active mitigation without having to hit something first.
As for dealing with ranged classes, Prot Paladins and Death Knights have the most defensive tools to use until they can engage their target. Second place goes to Guardian Druids and Prot Warriors. Bringing up the rear are Brewmasters and Vengeance Demon Hunters.
That being said, BrM can still do quite well versus kiting classes. Chi Torpedo can move you 50 yds very quickly. Paralysis has a 20 yd range. You can drop Ring of Peace in their path to bounce them back towards you. And don’t forget about Clash.
BrM isn’t a high dps tank, or a tank with a lot of defensives, or off heals. It’s a CC tank. It’s good at peeling, defending nodes, being a flag carrier, defending flag carriers, and stymieing enemy flag carriers.
Been playing brew in BG’s and having a blast, I try to think of it as a support class instead of high damage output, just running around booting everyone off objectives - monks have one of the craziest tool kits in the game IMO, + the new added ability clash thats like a meet halfway charge is incredible- also don’t under estimate that zen meditation PVP talent, kind of crazy if you time it right protecting flag carriers etc
Lol exactly. The constant CC is deadly and any tauren BRM has the potential to have an 11 sec stun lock. Hit 1400 rating fairly easy with my arms buddy. Ur impossible to fight if u use ur ENTIRE tool belt. Spellcasters can be v easy to fight.
look up Worldpvp, he plays brew at a high mmr in RBGs.
