I find it hilarious that this season is like the first time monk tanks are even usable at high levels and they are immediately supplanted by Guardians.
Do y’all just hate monks or something?

Balance got out of hand and all 3 Monk specs shot to the top. To Monk players, Brew is probably the red headed step child, as in if we have to choose we’ll probably let Brew get nerfed over the other 2 specs, I find Brew to be the more bland of the 3. Tanks usually are bland though.
I feel like being the meta spec is actually a curse, as it’s bound to be gutted in some way eventually.
Being like, low A or high B tier is where it’s at.
as a brew main between pandaria and now (it got too popular so i had to switch), this is heresy
I love BrM Monks, but they’re not played all that much unless they’re outright overpowered.
All other tanks are easily more popular.
Druids and Paladins are the most popular classes, alongside Hunter. So you’re gonna see a lot of those as tanks.
And Blood DK is strange but generally was more represented than BrM Monk was.
BrM only exploded recently because they can’t balance tanks very well it seems, and BrM got pushed up to the top.
So much easier to play one and do the same content with less stress, so that’s why all the rerolls happened.
I mean I like Brew but not more than the other 2. MW is like the pinnacle of healer design imo, because it can be melee or ranged on a dime, it’s pretty unique in that way.
Holy Paladin could’ve been that but they started messing around with Crusader Strike and everything else and turned it into a proto Holy Priest.
Brew was the best for several months, by an extremely wide margin. I do agree that Brew is often overshadowed outside of the occasional mythic raid cheese, but still, there should be an effort to keep tanks at least close to balanced.
I always have preferred monk tanks. I dont know if they just gel well with resto sham healing. or me. but ive always felt better with one, regardless of their place on the pecking order.
I’ve always played Guardian and Disc. And yeah, Brewmaster deserves a time to shine. But it’s still really good so I wouldn’t say Brew is getting any kind of shaft.
This is the least fun iteration of Brew. Pruning made the spec mindless and unfun to play. Losing zen med, weapons of order, bonedust brew, RSK and all the other stuff they gutted from us makes it a slog to play. Sure it’s in a good spot, but it went from the least representation to the most because of FOTM.
Put it back at D tier and give me my abilities back. It was still playable at high keys before, just much higher skill cap.
Just to be clear: they were nerfed but they are still a great tank and one of the best.
They are more solid overall than a Guardian.
The problem comes with Mark of the Wild.
Guardian is a tank that can survive pulls and gives 3% versatility. In a dungeon it is huge. Druids have been part of Meta in the past expansions for so long unless their spec was too much trash.
Mark of the Wild needs to change into maybe +3% haste.
Even after being nerfed to 3% versatility, it is still too strong for dungeons.
Monks are in a great place right now and brew has always been kind of niche. A good brew will always be better than a good guardian just because of their toolkit
Yes, Brew’s mitigation is terrible, Stagger has been holding it hostage for years that should have seen a rework. Its one and only strength is high effective health so it doesn’t die suddenly inside a gcd. The only reason it’s good this season is other tanks DO risk getting globaled.
Who cares? Brew is still great and all the nerfs were small.
Brew is in it’s best state in years and I prefer not being meta since that puts a target on your head.
Bears aren’t going to stay this way next season. They may still be great but there’s no way Blizz let’s them keep the current aberrant playstyle of not using Mangle and no Apex.
Every beta they make monks strong and all the tank mains get ready to play their monk (because we generally have all six alts).
Just in previous expansions they would turn around and nerf monk on launch. This time they nerfed the tanks ahead of monk on launch which left monk as the new top tank.
Brew has had a niche in raid tanking off and on, but I can’t think of a tank that’s had a worse run in m+ since the inception.
I do find it annoying that brew went through two rounds of nerfs right as guardian got giga-buffed into a more powerful tank than brew was pre nerfs.
All that said, brew is still in a solid spot, we still struggle with certain things but we’re super tanky
Blood, maybe
I’m hopeful that the only reason brew will get toppled is because they give in and buff paladin too much, rather than further nerfing brew.
Bear will probably get a redesign at some point to deal with their no apex thrash shenanigans
I actually like the current incarnation of bear, mostly because I loved the galactic guardian lazer disco bear.
I mained bear a bit in bfa before swapping to brew. I liked brew too. Its gonna be my next alt to 90.
Meta specs are only necessarily if you are doing the highest level of content.
Mid level specs are fine for most anything else.
I think they are just doing this practice that I like to call “blind design” where you put stuff in the game and flip numbers without even trying them out yourself and they just try to adjust based on community reaction instead of learning how to properly play the classes they design/balance.
Quit literally, we shouldn’t have to tell them for years and years that letting BDK mathematically die before other tanks is unacceptable, it’s something they should see and experience by themselves as they do high keys during their own working hours, as a real task they should be doing, SEVERAL MONTHS before even thinking about what they put in the patch that becomes the opening of the PTR.
Let me be clear: the classes should be balanced before PTR opens. Or at least extremely close to it.
At first glance on the PTR it was obvious BDK was at least 20% behind brewmaster in survivability, if not 30. Nothing was done about it at the time. It took many weeks to get something like 1.6% physical dmg reduction through an armor buff. Why would they think this is enough? In what universe would that make sense? They did the same thing again after. And look where we are now, not even freaking close AND the gap is even bigger now because we have to compare with broken bears.
This level of incompetence is comparable to seeing a car with 4 blown tires and think you have to change the AC.
