Brewmaster vs Windwalker Monk

I’m new at wow, I’m at level 104 atm. Currently, I’m leveling as Windwalker but a friend told that tanks are more useful on dungeons and other stuff. Is Brewmaster a good option or I should keep going as DPS !?

do you want to tank? If so, for sure you will have an easier time getting groups.

Tanks are definitely more in demand, so you’ll have a much easier time getting into groups if you choose to play one.

But it’s also the role that is often expected to lead, so very often you’ll be expected to know the routes and general strategies to take. It’s overall significantly more responsibility (probably the reason why many shy away from it).

If you intend to Raid with a guild then it’s also kind of crucial to have very good attendance as tank, it’s way easier to pug an extra DPS if someone is missing than a tank.

Tanking is much more involved in dungeons than a DPS spec. Going beyond understanding dungeons and mechanics (which you are expected to know), you have to keep a close eye on NPC burn down rates, team members health, and deaths, healer’s mana Levels and manage your own health and stagger.

On the other hand it tends to be more engaging for those reasons. If you are up to the challenge, be sure to let the group know you are new to the spec. Some players will behave poorly, but that’s life. Most will be supportive.

Tanking is the only thing that isnt a mind numbing experience in PvE…

I’ve mostly only tanked. If you choose to tank this is what your experience will be like:

  1. Nothing in world PVE will threaten you. Encounters designed to be tackled in groups you may tackle solo.
  2. World bosses you’ll find allies gathering around it wondering if it’s safe to start… well, you arrive and the battle begins. Sometimes you are alone and start a tough fight and a party forms around you of people who also want the kill.
  3. Fast queues into dungeons… there’s a caveat to this: there’s an expectation that you know the encounters. You are expected to study the dungeon and raid before hand. Just accept it as part of the game… be responsible. If I’m still not sure, I’ll run content as dps to become familiar then queue tank.
  4. Don’t quit. If you’re gonna tank, expect to tank your comrades criticism, their complains, their mistakes. Commit to see the party to the finish line regardless of wipes and grievances. Only after everyone else gives up and disbands the party you are released. TANKS don’t give up. If there’s a single person willing to go on… you stay, refill the group and continue. If you HAVE to go set up the group with a replacement tank before you excuse yourself.
  5. On raids, queues may not be as quick. There’s only two spots for tanks. Guilds usually already have tank spots filled, pugs not so much. Tanking raids is easy. It’s basically positioning the boss and tanks swapping aggro. The more complicated raid mechanics are left to dps and heals.
  6. In pvp tanking is… erm… there’s a rumor that tanks have some utility in pvp… I dunno… maybe on battlegrounds with a group of friends? It’s very hard to tank pvp because its often a better strategy to kill your opponents faster, and healers can hold positions better than tank, i think. If you do go tank pvp, your role is to delay the enemy offense. Keep in mind that to aggro players all you have to do is heal their target. Protect the real healers tho.
  7. Be nice and kind to other roles. Dont just charge ahead. Always look over your shoulder and check your friends are with you. Position the mobs to optimize dps AoEs. Keep close watch on heals mana. Set a pace that is enjoyable to the party, whether it’s faster or slower. It’s a game and we’re trying to have a good time.

So yeah, tanking is super fun. See if you like it.

Edit: … and if you get kicked from a group cause you sucked at tanking. Don’t take it personal. Learn from what went wrong and improve yourself. I’ve been kicked for making stupid mistakes. The path to success is littered with failures.

Why not both? I play all three specs, it will take some time to master but it was fun for me.
