Hi folks,
Always loved monk since its inception in moP, although I think we are overdue for an upgrade in our animations. I leveled one in BFA ( the same I rolled in MoP ) but did not necessarily raid at a high level with him, did it on other toons.
Now I want to go back to monk because I like it, but because of my unusual work hours and schedule, I do some of the things solo in game.
I just want to check with you if the rumors I heard are right, which is basically that to solo gold mobs ( 3 players suggested fight ) or Torghast for example, BrM is by far the worse tank because we have the lowest damage and the lowest self sustain.
I can understand that stagger is amazing for progression when you haver healer, but I must admit that our only heal ( expel harm ) being on a very long cooldown and very weak leads me to believe that we will be crap soloers compared to the other tanks.
I am right or fully wrong ( which I hope I am ) !
Cheers !
I can’t speak on how they compare to others as I haven’t finished leveling them but I have had 0 problems with torghast and elites and farming 5+ mobs at a time for meat, I end up @ 70%+ hp at the end of most solo content then pop a few vivifys and keep on trucking, usually top or second on dps in most mythics as well.

Awesome, but if you don’t mind me asking how do you stay healed ? or do you never go below 70 %.
I am wondering because it seems BrM have no mitigation tool at all besides stagger and the crappy barrier that they implemented that isn’t worth our time.
Unless healing elixirs are still there and I don’t see it…
when I get to about 70% hp I pop Purify then Celestial brew to stop the damage and give me a decent size shield, then while that is taking the damage i use Expel Harm on cd even if I have no healing spheres as it still heals for like 10% of my hp on a 5 sec cd, with getting the occasional sphere you stay at close to 100% hp easily, aoe stun or ping of peace and vivify if its getting sketchy.
Basically keep celestial and expel on cd and your golden

For my monk that “crappy barrier” is a 10-30k shield I can pop every ~30s. I quite like it. Expel Harm on its very short CD really adds up too and we get a conduit to give it a big boost in healing. Healing Elixir and Fae Line Stomp help too.
I tanked a 5 man tier 3 Torghast without a dedicated healer and though it got close a few times I didn’t die.
Do we have the healing of a Veng DH? Nah. But we do fine solo. I have breezed my way through Torghast while making decent size pulls. Expel Harm, Brews, Stuns, RoP, etc are all great. Every now and again I’ll have to RoP to heal myself or something like that but we are not bad by any means.
Healing Elixirs is still a talent and a must for the solo BrM. Also, as mentioned, use Expel Harm on CD even if no spheres. Chi Wave on the first talent row is a better source of healing than any of the other options because you can have multiple bounces, as well as more meaningful Celestial Fortune procs. It can also be used on just yourself if you have no target for a single instant heal to help get yourself topped off on the move.
Celestial Brew isn’t a crappy barrier. The thing to remember is that you have to purify damage first before you use it. This will increase the size of the shield up to 200% based on the amount purified. Doing elites, it routinely sits at 11K.
Our base damage isn’t that of a Vengeance Demon Hunter, or a Prot Warrior. It’s about the same as a Prot Pally without Avenging Wrath or Seraphim up. It’s serviceable and will get the job done. Niuzao and Touch of Death are our dps cooldowns.
Awesome, will try it, thank you all for your input, very much appreciated.
I was lead to believe we were not as good because there are online videos of prot pally soloing mythic SL dungeons but no video of BrM doing so. Prot seemed better
Good old Rextroy. Prot Pallys can do some things no other tank in the game can do. Rextroy can do things that most other players could never figure out how to do.
Put the two together and you have some mind blow content for sure. Rextroy is like the Macguyver of WoW. He could probably figure out how to one shot you with a non-combat pet.
Hahaha, love the MacGuyver reference, probably my best TV series ever growing up !

as i have both i can say if you are dual wielding lightless force enchants and have the double keg smash legendary, brm single target is quite a bit higher than paladin and now their aoe has surpassed them as well.
Brewmaster solos everything like the zen gods we are.
I have done Torghast as both BRM and WW and honestly I’ve had no problems with either, with BRM being a bit easier to not die. We have some good Torghast power ups as well which is nice.
Tower is not a problem for brew.
One thing I do a little differently than mentioned above is that I roll with the ox statue over rop. The statue is still quite strong and taunts, so in a pinch I can throw her out and she’ll give me a chance to recuperate before slamming the mobs again.
Oh yes, and our statue is female. Throw her down in Duskwood where the worgens could curse her. Observe which worgen model she turns into.

So its name is actually Davette?
Davita? Or maybe Dave identifies as a bull and not a cow?
I won’t judge. It could be a my little pony statue so long as it keeps drawing aggro when and where I need it!
for sure not true at all. iv had no issues with torghast and have also easily carried people through completing it in a group by myself. 3-5 player quests are also soloable. BrM has better self sustain then I think they have ever had. Id say pally is still the best solo option mainly due to their high damage but im willing to bet that gets further nerfed. outside of pally in general and then VDH in aoe Monks with leggo have the next best damage.
