Brewmaster question

hello everyone  i have a question i would love to play bewmaster monk it looks like its alot of fun . but i feel really stupid i just cant understand how the whole stagger thing works and how to handle it and not die … any thoughts or advice would be great please … is it worth me giving it a try ? i dont do pvp or high end content i just solo play like quests dungeons world stuff … stuff like that …

thank you all <3

First, I would suggest checking out the Peak of Serenity website:

Peak of Serenity Home Page – Peak of Serenity

There’s a paragraph on brews and shuffle that will explain how our main mechanic works.

Second, I would suggest joining the Discord site that is linked at the bottom of the Peak of Serenity homepage.

It’s absolutely worth giving it a try! I’m still learning the ropes, myself, but the journey has been fun so far.

Hi, different brewmaster.

As a beginner, I recommend leveling your character a bit from low level before boosting them to get a feel for how monk works.

I actually don’t recommend spending too much time on peak of serenity or its discord if you dont like being condescended to by mansplainy Numbers Jerks who will tell you that there is only one way to play the game and any deviation is Doin It Wrong.

If you care about maxing numbers and cookie cutter build go to pos, if you want to have fun and do your thing just dive in and do it. Get a feel for it.

Try “tanking” single nonelite mobs out in the world to understand your stagger intake.

From my personal experience, you can do load all the mods and weakauras in the world that will tell you exactly when to purify or celestial, but honestly, you just build up a feel for it over time.

Stagger is the total damage of the hit split into a dot, and purify removes half of your total dot. It’s like a warrior’s should block in reverse, we mitigate our damage after the fact. And then celestial brew is a big power word shield we can use to tank big hits. It increases in absorb based on our purifying stagger.

If you have any really specific questions I’d be happy to try to answer them.

P.s. the following are dumb memes

If you have any energy issues, you will be told to stop using tiger palm no matter what those issues are. Ignore these people. They care about being Numbers Right more than being helpful.

You’re “supposed” to always choose Ring of Peace over statue in your talents and the jerks will laugh at you if you pick statue aka dave.

You’re “supposed” to always take rushing jade wind but the other options can be made to work if that fits your playstyle.

Stagger is a way of moving damage to a damage over time pool. Shuffle moves 100% of your physical damage to your stagger pool. You take the stagger damage over 10s. By just using keg smash, blackout kick and spinning crane kick you can maintain 100% on shuffle. So it’s pretty passive.

As you accumulate stagger, the default UI shows a green circle for light, yellow for medium, and red for heavy stagger damage. In other words the DOT chunks get really big and become hard for healers to keep you alive.

To start and become comfortable I would use Purify Brew on yellow and red stagger. Purify drops your stagger pool by 50%. This is how we mitigate. We take the damage and then decide how to mitigate the most by pooling it efficiently. We have limited self healing.

We have other tools to mitigate some damage but managing your stagger pool is the best way to reduce your overall damage. We traditionally take more damage than other tanks but with proper usage of Purify we aren’t that far off from other tanks that mitigate up front.

Celestial brew should be used after Purify Brew to empower it putting a strong shield on you for tank buster hits. Niauo the black ox also takes some of your stagger damage so you can take even more. I use on big pack pulls.
