I recently began on the journey of tanking on Brewmaster. I enjoy the challenge, but i cant help but think The Mastery is almost useless in Mythic Dungeons on the bigger pulls.
Just a thought maybe there are better BrewMaster tanks out there that can better help me understand. but it would be nicer to have a proc based where it granted u x amount of dodge for 1-2 seconds. rather than ur next attack.
I find brewmasters can have a hard time handling bigger pulls or in top end mythic dungeons. We just get smacked and the stagger ramps up instantly.
Any other tips or tricks to help become the best Brewmaster tank out there?
I have a stagger tracker Addon,
It looks like Stat priority is Versatility for brewmaster.
ANyone play Brewmaster at top end that wanna share some insight and rare tips that can help one be a top end player on the class?
Brew is just criminally behind other tanks in keys. Doesn’t have high self-sustain, damage, or mob control. It needs buffs or a full rework in order to become competitive.
In terms of gearing just go to Murlok(dot)io and copy the best players
For gameplay guides WoWhead, Icyveins for written guides, if you need a visual Mordrim, Sha, Equinox, Quazii
I played brew for 1 season and the Peak of Serenity discord is very helpful and knowledgeable if you have questions
For the playstyle it feels pretty crap in lower keys, but in higher keys it starts to shine more. It almost feels like the same difficulty whichever keylevel you’re in which is unique lol kind of like the opposite of BDK
People keep saying that, but it just isn’t true and probably why Blizzard isnt “fixing” it:

These stats say that, yes, people play Brewmaster and are earning points as Brewmaster.
Have you actually played dps or healer with a Brewmaster tank?
It’s like a night and day difference between healing a Brewmaster and healing a prot warrior or VDH. They need a lot more babysitting. In a dungeon rotation where most keys already feel like bailing water if you’re healing.
DPS need to be way more on top of sequenced stops because Brew has like, one compared to 2x sigil of silence, avengers shields, grips, etc.
Like, can you play brew in the current meta? Absolutely. But you’re going to make your group absolutely miserable if they’re not willing or able to pick up the slack.
That’s actually very good points and I haven’t experienced that level of gameplay. so you may be 100% right. I just think, if they are as bad as every says they are, why are they even with all other tanks?
Well, to start they are not. Even the wclogs stats put them at the bottom.
And at the highest key levels, group coordination is less of an issue and Brewmaster gets to play to its strengths like taking sustained damage, smoothing chain pulls, holding consistent aoe threat.
In pugs, VDH/Prot/Blood can push a lot higher with less coordination because their tools do the hard part on behalf of the whole group.
there are a number of players who are dedicated to playing the spec no matter what. they have enough contacts that they can build groups around brew’s weaknesses/challenges. the average pug player is going to have a tougher time, generally.
So for what it’s worth I’ve predominatly played tanks. I played this brewmaster for a ton of +8/9 keys last season because I was after the gilded crests. Now at that level my healer in my group (Bonegrundle) told me that they found it pretty easy to heal me.
Even in what you’ve linked Brewmasters are at 1/2 the representation of the next tank up. The people playing Brewmaster play it because they love it.
Now having then played Protection Paladin, snap threat through AS and DT. Huge part of mit is just standing in my Consecrate and using defensives.
Also playing Blood DK, albiet only at tanking +7s so far. Also great because I have strong self heal, can grip to pull things in and to soft int them while giving the party big magic damage reduction through AMZ/AMS (can opt into share shields). Only thing Brewmaster can do that’s good is increase melee dmg taken on enemies (which maybe could work on a Arms+Ret+Ench + Rsham comp).
A big reason i’ve made this character just a delver this season is just there’s no point in trying to push for the love of the class. It’s extra effort for 0 payoff.
