Breezebiter is an elite mob added in Dragonflight that acts like a rare but isn’t a rare.
It has a long spawn rate, a low drop rate, a tag limit of 5 players, and if it despawns on you before you can loot it (like from getting sharded due to the Big Dig event nearby), the loot won’t be sent to your mail box.
Several other mobs that have been added in the last several expansions that offer mount drops like this are properly classified as rare or rare-elite: Karokta and Zenet Avis in Dragonflight, Hirukon, Hopecrusher and Gieger just to name a few from Shadowlands, Lurker of the Deeps and Beledar’s Spawn from TWW, etc.
Now with The War Within coming out, level 80 players will be able to one-shot-nuke the mob making camping even worse.
It would be appreciated if a dev can change the UnitClassification for Breezebiter (NPC 195353) to “rare” or “rareelite”
Thank you!

I have recently been camping this Mob myself and thought I was going insane because I knew I was hitting this thing and couldn’t loot it!!

It never was shown as a rare, even in the first week of DF. I have to assume it was intentional if it was never changed. You can always add the ID to a rare scanner so it picks it up.

I’m putting up a bug report in case it wasn’t intentional but it just got overlooked.
While camping for this mob, I see so many frustrated players as on some shards there are crowds of up to a dozen people waiting and most of them won’t even get a chance at loot because of the tag limit.
Considering that in TWW beta, the mount dropping rares (that were discovered so far) are properly classified as rare or rare-elite, it could also just be a simple misclassification.
Blizzard has been going back and fixing old rares and world bosses doing things like giving them 1-shot protection (the boss sits at 1hp for a few seconds before dying to give everyone a chance to tag), extra HP (BFA Mechagon rares were recently buffed), and other things that make them more group-friendly. Breezebiter is very much going backwards in the wrong direction if this was intentional.

It’s insane how this feature (?) has gone through for the entirety of the DF expansion lmao

Completely agree. Everything about this “rare” is extremely frustrating to farm. And I’d argue it’s ruining the vibe for people hanging out at the location together. When the multi-hour delirium sets in and we’re playing with toys, it pretty much instantly gets ruined once Breeze spawns. It becomes really cutthroat.
Some people just melt his hp instantly. And even if they don’t, if there’s more than 5 people, the ones who don’t get credit for the tag feel understandably slighted after waiting sometimes upwards of 3+ hours. There has to be some sort of adjustment to make this spawn make sense.

I saw a particularly nasty exchange this morning. Had to be at least 20 people showing up with a lot of cursing, blame and anger as most didn’t get the tag.
I can only imagine things getting nastier during TWW like it was in Mechagon when people were one-shotting the Arachnoid Harvester…and that had a relatively short spawn timer! With fewer people in Dragonflight zones, that means fewer shards and more people crammed together to camp this mob.

20 people? It must be getting popular to kill breezebiter. I killed it many times throughout the expansion and at most there were like 5 people there.

Honestly it is quite ridiculous to see 20+ people camping this mob (yes, there are actually that many and more camping it). Blizz – please allow for multiple tags and shorten the spawn timer!

Been like this all expansion, it’s just more frustrating now that people are trying to camp it to close out the expansion. This is not a bug and it is working as intended.
Because it was broken all expansion means it’s not a bug? It’s just as likely it’s a bug that wasn’t noticed by Blizzard until it became a problem now that it’s affecting more people more often.
Can you name one other “elite-but-not-rare” in all of Retail that acts like this mob dropping a rare-drop mount?
