{BREAKING THE ANVIL} Dun Modr Ravaged! 🔥

EDIT: Repurposing this thread. My side is still open to any potential mercenaries, but turns out that we had just enough to meet the Dwarven Vanguard’s impressive count of warriors!

That said, I’ll be posting updates about our campaign here for any political bodies interested in acknowledging an IC conflict between the Horde and Alliance factions. I imagine that sort of news would travel fast.

Warcriers blare out horns, vying for the attention of those in nearly every corner of Orgrimmar.

"The Blackhand Battalion has launched another offensive into the eastern lands, targeting the heartlands of Dun Modr and the stubborn Dwarven Vanguard who toil away at creating more weapons of war to slaughter our peoples with!

Warlord Orgaz Wyrmsplitter demands more warriors to heed his call in fighting BACK the Alliance who dare to threaten the Horde’s way of life! Mercenaries will be well compensated for efforts! A stack of dwarven beards will earn the Warchief’s favor!

Those of you who have the COURAGE to win this war: Report to the War-Mages at once for teleportation!

LOK’TAR OGAR!"

OOC:

The Blackhand Battalion is currently engaging the vaunted Dwarven Vanguard in an interguild D20-PvP campaign that’s focusing on a Horde attack on the Dwarven Vanguard’s fanon lands.

We are currently open to anyone who’s potentially interested in acting as a mercenary/sellsword for the Blackhand Battalion in order to help balance numbers a bit. It’s a bit short notice, but please contact me on Discord if you’d be interested in participating! I’ll give you the current context and movements as this campaign unfolds.

You do not need to be max level or in my guild to participate!

Burainn Trueforge’s brow was caked with blood and sweat, his breathing laboured after besting one of the many orc raiders attacking his people’s home of Brackenhill. This was no simple Dragonmaw incursion, the dwarf knew, his eyes darting between Blackrock, Warsong, and even Nightborne that raised blades against his kin. Wolf riders waved the Horde’s banner triumphantly as they skirted around the dwarf village, cutting down any civilians or Thane’s men alike that tried to flee deeper into Dun Modr. Fires raged unmolested on the town’s structures, while uncontested orcs began detonating explosives to collapse the homes of those who stubbornly resisted their demise.

It wasn’t enough, Burainn knew. The Dwarven Vanguard had fought valiantly, but this town lacked the defenses of Dun Modr’s fortress upon the Thandol. Bromas and Odron had already sounded the retreat, attempting to save who they could before falling back into the mountains. They would need all the time they could, for Trueforge now faced down not one, but four Horde soldiers — one of which was their Warlord who began to speak in a grim-tongued Common.

“I offer you a Warlord’s mercy,” Orgaz Wyrmsplitter said with a blatantly arrogant tone, his massive double-bladed axe freshly tainted in dwarf blood. “Run back to your pathetic band of warriors and let them know that THIS is just the beginning… or stay there and embrace your death.”

Burainn’s fingers bound tightly around his weapon, his lips moved only to spout words of condemnation and defiance as any proper dwarf would. The Warlord allowed an amused cackle, no doubt expecting the stubborn display, before then ordering his warriors to collapse upon the dwarf all at once. The Light proved true and loyal to his cause, batting down another orcish foe before attempting to project a Judgement in the form of a hammer towards the Warlord’s right hand, one of Outland’s Mag’har, General Torzax.

Wordlessly, Torzax stepped forward and twisted his bulky fingers into a practiced pattern that any wizard could identify as a cantrip to manipulate the arcane. A violet portal opened, absorbing Burainn’s projectile, and then Trueforge’s vision went black as a wracking pain ripped through the back of his skull. There was no more strength or control he could muster, and so he fell into an unconscious limp upon the ground.

Brackenhill burned feverishly as its last defender fell.

"THE STUNTLINGS RETREAT!" The Warlord shouted at the top of his Blackrock lungs, contesting even the roaring flames for audible dominance. "Lay waste to this wretched village, my warriors! Let the smoke pillar so high into the sky that even the humans of STROMGARDE can know that the HORDE is TRIUMPHANT! Kill any who resist!"

The order was carried out without hesitation by the Warlord’s soldiers. Bloodied, unarmed dwarves were routinely butchered as they made their individual last stands. In truth, those few who attempted surrender weren’t given mercy either. The Blackhand Battalion’s raid moved at a lightning’s pace to avoid the whole of the Grand Alliance bearing down upon them — prisoners would only slow them down. And so, Brackenhill’s combined population of civilians and its defending garrison was nearly halved. Blood and corpses littered its dirt paths as banners that paid homage to Blackhand and the Horde stood ominously in the village’s centre plaza. The blood price of war was paid in full and without unnecessary cruelty or sadistic pleasure. The Warlord truly believed this to be the only path that secured an unfettered future for the Horde.

Tomorrow, Bael Vorn and its bountiful fields of crops and peat would be next to suffer the Warlord’s wrath.

Late update, {Breaking The Anvil} has concluded in a fierce victory for the Horde!

The Blackhand Battalion, along with their Dragonmaw auxiliaries, swept across the Dwarven Vanguard’s homelands of Dun Modr and put their lands to the torch. The fertile farmlands of Bael Vorn, the outlying settlement of Brackenhill, and the Modross Iron Mine were actively ransacked by the Horde’s fury in an attempt to slow down the region’s weapon production and logistical support for the Alliance war effort.

In the finale at the Modross Iron Mine, the Battalion and mercs under the banner warred with honor and strength. Defeating the valiant warriors of the Dwarven Vanguard, pyrite bombs were unleashed and a cavalry of ram riders sought the field. As the lands burned and forces stampeded, the Horde blew the mine with a lethal grenade of blight in the mix. Seeking ships, the Dragonmaw remained without transport fighting to their deaths against the arriving ram riders.

HUGE SHOUT OUT TO THE DWARVEN VANGUARD, YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING AS ALWAYS!

Thank you so much for offering to hop on your Horde characters when it counted. We look forward to fighting you stuntlings in the future…
