The World of Warcraft UI will now be handled by King, makers of Candy Crush.

Lmao@these threads. I’m sorry, but did the game that has always had a cutsey cartoon art style suddenly offend everyones hardcore and brooding sensibilities or what???

Does this mean we can get fully integrated Candy Crush in-game like the old Peggle addon? :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated: Nice work Blizz.

Man. The Peggle addon was so good. I dunno if it’s still in service or not.

There is a game called Peglin. It’s Peggle but with Goblins. If we could get that as an addon that’d be neat too.

Foremost, it’s pretty clear that you haven’t played very long, if you think WoW, or Warcraft for that matter, was always “cutesy” or bubblegum. Go watch the BC release trailer.

That being said, the new UI effects seem to have been designed by someone who doesn’t actually play the game. They’re jarring, distracting, and ultimately unnecessary. If you look at the UIs of top players, you see a trend toward simplicity. They want necessary, relevant information without distraction or clutter. Clean and simple.

I’ve always preferred the standard UI over addons like ElvUI, because visually, it matches the game environment. It makes WoW feel like a cohesive game, not someone’s half-bake mod. However, these new, unnecessary timers and effects cannot be turned off. So…if you want clean and simple…you’re going to need to use addons to undo what has been done.

Lmao. I played day 1 vanilla. No not on this account. I destroyed my OG account. Long story. It’s how I can tell exactly what scene in the TBC vid you’re talking about without having to google it. You’re probably refering to the scene where the belf sucks the life force out of the mana worm. What you’re conflating is blizz’s full blown cinematics with their actual game.

The behaviour of the people you describe are the top echelon of players. AKA the extreme minority. Tailoring the game to those people is the absolute worst thing blizz could do, for rather obvious reasons.

I too, do not use elvui. I find it much too bloated in it’s configuration. Not to mention is has a habit of completely destroying the default UI if you ever have to revert to it, thus requiring a complete UI reset. No. Elvui is trash. You only really need a few add-ons to make the default UI as extensible as anyone should really ever need. And that includes the CE peeps.

i really want to create a thread about the psychological impact patch day has on players.

i find it genuinely fascinating.

…but i just KNOW people will feel “attacked” by it.

i wonder if anyone has done any actual studies on this subject?
it’s actually a bit scary to see such extreme reactions over a couple of pixels in a game.

The trailers always look cooler than the game. And compared to many other games, yes, WoW has always been cartoonish and kinda cutesy. It’s the just the art style.

On the subject though – the UI changes to me… are great. The ability flash isn’t as obtrusive as they were before, not nearly as distracting (and my hammer getting stuck in giant flash wasn’t great before), and the icon bar is fantastic for me, who has trouble seeing low contrast. I can actually see the buttons and tell them apart again.

Citation needed.

The petulance is real.

Then either your bars are very small or you don’t have charge abilities. The animations gave me a headache. :slightly_frowning_face:

I don’t like the custom UI. It’s as distracting as if we replaced all the weapons in Terminator with Nerf

I tried to see past all of the variations. However, there are subtle lines, shades, colors that in the official UI make me able to tune them out.

:ocean: :dragon: :ocean: :dragon:

Are the icons really that big a deal? Is there something else going on? I use Elvui so my UI hasn’t changed in several years.

It’s like they ignored gnomes or something.

Reminds me of an episode of Hoarders. A hoarder hated a house remodel and went on to say she hates surprises. And how she always struggled with that.

With places like Twitter making people sort of addicted to being outraged, it feels like its a loop of both this and the Hoarder thing I mentioned.

Elvui is great. It’s lost some value after the DF revamp and more modular base UI, but once you understand what does what in the Elvui options, the control it provides is invaluable. It’s carried over from expac to expac, patch to patch without any significant issues.

I find myself sorely missing the UI flexibility when playing any other mmo now.

I’d read it for sure. :slightly_smiling_face:
