Doing this event makes me realize after giving sum 3k IO and sub 3kIO player a chance that it’s not the class/spec and that the players are just bad.
Been non-meta all patch and done plenty of keys w/ non-meta specs. During this event though trying to run keys w/ some people and they just get flopped by frontals or other easy mechanics, then silently leave group and ignore you. Nobody being mean or anything, but these bad players just get embarassed and ninja quit. It’s frustrating and more than class/spec choice, it’s why people get declined on keys so much. There’s just so many people who are terrible and rage/ninja quit that it makes giving lower io player a chance sort of out of the question.
I don’t know if DK is meta but I think it is very much the player over the class in most cases. But I do take some liberties in considering who to invite in thinking ‘ok so it would be kinda hard to do lower than 100k avg on a ret pal/BM hunter’.
There are tiers:
cream; Uses damage/defensive cooldowns in tandem with rest of group to ensure consistent pump for whole dungeon, interrupts and uses all utility where possible.
body; Brings and uses utility OR brings and knows how to damage. But not both.
A meta spec doesn’t suddenly turn an inexperienced player into an experienced player. But if you have equally experienced players (or equally inexperienced), the ones with meta specs are likely to perform better and make runs easier. That is why some specs are meta and are not. (An exception are meta specs that only really shine at high key levels, but are comparatively weaker in lower keys.)
As a holy priest, you and your group play with a handicap in high keys. If you played a meta healer spec, you’d probably perform better, assuming you’d play it equally well.
I’ve been playing “break the meta” since day one. Not with my own personal class but with all the random classes I end up running around with.
All I’ve learned is people just suck sometimes, including myself. If you’re in an 18+ odds are the group will succeed more often than not. Anything below that is complete utter chaos regardless of who you bring.
Nah no spec of DK is meta. Reason you can’t do “Break the Meta” as blood, is due to a lot of people rerolled to it this season thinking the lego was going to make it the best. In fact it was the people who play Vengeance and make love to their Illidian body pillow got a free pass because Blizz went “Lets make Vengeance have more CC in the game then any other tank combined and do more damage then actual dps character. Surely this won’t be an issue. We are so good at our jobs.”
