TLDR: All I can ask from all of you is this:
When there is a moment where you wish to be sharp with your tongue and tone, stop. Think a second. Be a little softer. You’ll help make a better community.
Plenty of stories on here about tough dungeon runs. Toxic players. Folks who beat on each other for not knowing mechanics, not learning fast enough, or just…I don’t know, not being good at the game. An unfortunate chunk of people here seem to think that’s good practice.
It ain’t.
Nobody’s gonna get better that way.
You want folks to improve?
Be gentle. Be firm, but kind. Be patient.
Take your time with them, if you’ve got it. If you don’t, just…try and politely point them to where they need to go to learn. Y’all who’re going after folks because they’re just running Neltharion’s lair for the first time have to slow down a bit. You’re playing with other people. Think of it like - you’re joining a DND game with a bunch of people you don’t know.
You’re not gonna rush ahead, get everyone killed, and blame it on them because they haven’t done the campaign before, are you?
Are you?
There’s a load of hatred in the world. This is an escapist game for a load of us. You don’t have to bring the hate with you.
Brought to you by the fact that I ran someone through SFK today for the first time.
Sincerely,
Willowbloom

At the end of the day, it’s a video game.
Video games are meant to be relaxing not frustrating. Sometimes folks need a helping hand learning / doing things.
Teamwork makes the dreamwork.

I guess I just can’t understand the “Try Hard” mentality. Most of us have been playing this game for upwards of 15 years. That’s 15 years worth of learning the same basic premise of a boss fight with different iterations and slightly different mechanics. Different colored circles and different colored patches of crap on the floor.
How do you NOT get bored of this?
Do you honestly mean to tell me you can spend countless hours watching boss fights on youtube so you know each and every little mechanic inside and out before you even clear the trash to get there? For god’s sake why? Isn’t it more fun just to walk into the fight blind and learn the fight on the first pull? Can anyone actually NOT do that? Do you need Method or Limit or Exorsus to explain in painful detail how to kill every last thing in the game?
If you’re that reliant on someone else to tell you how to play the game, you have no business berating anyone for “not knowing how to play”. And if you’re not? Then you probably don’t care if it takes someone a pull or three to pick up how a fight works.
Personally I can’t think of anything more dull than a boss fight that goes perfectly.

Nunno you’ve hit it right on!
Mistakes happen.
We’ve gotta give eachother room to make them, room to learn from them - and room for folks to make’em a buncha times.
It’s just how it is.

Would you get out of here? We’re trying to be care bears! ~shoo!

You are exactly who I’m trying to reach out to.
You need to take people at face value. Stop looking for subversion. If you approach every situation with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Let…yourself be empathetic and kind. It ain’t a bad route to go.

I eat people, but it is a cry for help.

That would be nice, but that’s simply a naive take imo.

Thank you

It’s all good, we’re given a hammer the second we get here I know - but the local kobold embassy has suffered for it and we really gotta work on our diplomacy
I get why folks look for that too.
If you stop taking stuff as genuine though, if you’re constantly guarding for trolls….people who actually need help slip through the cracks. That’s the whole reason the aggravators are there in the first place.

Most people come here to troll, so I’ll pass on that.

I get that. I don’t really let it deter me though. Blame it on the traumatic brain damage.
Your intentions are good but unrealistic. The competitive nature of the game and anonymity will always bring forth the worst behaviors.

People choose to do that.
They can also choose not to.
I don’t think it’s that huge an ask.
I’m well aware of how abrasive things can get here. It’d be nice if we could kill that whole mindset.

Well, I agree with a lot of what’s been said here.
This is a form of entertainment, no ones life depends on a perfect run. If you’re puging, you should already know things can go sideways. At that point if you have nothing nice to say, keep it to ya self.
No you shouldn’t leave after a single wipe. You should stick it out so your fellow players that are struggling can get gear. Don’t brick a key because your time is so valuable. You’re outnumbered, those other 4 people, their time is also valuable.
However… I was in a grimrail heroic that just wasn’t going to happen. The tank had no idea what was happening on the gun boss. After the 6th, yes SIX, wipe, my tolerance was wearing thin. I had to leave so I didn’t get nasty.
I’m not saying you should watch every video or know every mechanic going in but when you demonstrate an inability to learn, now you’re not respectful of my time.
But you still don’t have to go eppeen Richard about it. Simply say, “Sorry, real life is calling, gotta go” and dip.

Exactly!! Yes!!! That’s all you need to do!! Thank you!!

Appreciate seeing this. Gotta say, the people who call others “sensitive” need to learn to be more kind. Just because it wouldn’t hurt you, doesn’t mean it won’t hurt others.
There’s a reason why I only run with guildies and friends.

This is the key.
People say “WoW is toxic!” but…it’s the players who make the community. I’ve been trying to live by a “world is crappy, spread good” school of thought the last few years. I don’t always hit the mark, but usually I do. It has monumentally changed my experiences.
It is a video game and we are all healthy enough to play it. Being kind to others costs zero dollars and feels good.
