Y’all, I’ve been going at this the wrong way.
I’ve been banging the “my alts as my dungeon followers” drum alongside the “some form of follower dungeon progression to at least heroic dungeons” drum for some time, based on some comments from Ion about that being the natural progression of dungeon followers (that, no, I don’t have a source for. I saw them, and they’re propelling me to my next point here), but something hit me in the face today that… I almost want more than that.
The idea is a) I want to play with my alts in flex-sized small group content and b) I want it to be more than the leveling game, and people have big opinions on that second part, which I understand… but what if we don’t build a new follower dungeon progression system to go with level cap follower dungeons… and instead have an alt as a delve follower?!
Think of the crazy, open ended, sometimes breakable other times just fun to experiment with idea of picking from your roster of alts instead of a static delve companion. Delves being role agnostic fit as a toe-in-the-water for playing with your alts and perhaps feels much easier to attempt than the rigidity of the “trinity composition” of 5-man dungeons! People would of course “solve” this and post the optimal companion for every spec, but like… who cares? It’s delves! It’s Juuuust relevant enough to be worth the feature, but juuuust shy enough of “srs bsns” content that it wouldn’t matter if some combos worked better than others!
I think it’d be great!
Or, you know, maybe we get heroic (or even M0) follower dungeon progression with our own characters! Or both!
But delves… that spot where Brann sits now instead being a huge swiss army knife of every alt you have performing on a very “bot using the single button rotation and maybe some heals and/or threat powers” kinda level… that feels much more open ended as a testing ground!

Pretty much everyone’s reaction to warbands was that alts would make great NPC sidekicks. It’s a no-brainer for anyone who has played the game. The game’s designers haven’t though.

Don’t push your luck, pal.

Not a bad idea bro, I like it.

As long as I indirectly get the gold and resources my alts collect instead of it going to Brann lol.
Honestly this sounds like a good idea, but I worry about certain classes/specs for alts being better for delves, so everyone ends up with Blood DK alts as followers or something.
People will harm themselves, do the most unfun things in terms of gameplay, if it means getting the best results.

Then I can yell at my alts instead of at Brann!

Am I wrong in saying that Follower Dungeons are far too easy?
I hit 70 last night on my drood, but I did not have any real gear because of looms. Went into TWW follower dungeons…and I just had to move forward. The only time I had to toss heals was when I dot’d extra packs of enemies the AI tank didnt pull.

I’m disappointed that they scrapped the Delve companion roster thing. That’s kind of a major red flag that they couldn’t fit that in, but we got a BRD raid that basically no one did or one and done and that was it.
I can’t even think of a raid that was done once, then forgotten about, Crucible of Storms comes close since barely anyone could even clear it when it came out.

They aren’t going to pay for a ton of “WEE BITO GOLDE” voicework. Have to wait for AI to replace all of the voice actors.

The follower mods for Skyrim 12 years ago blow out Brann and anything they add in terms of dialogue. This company is lame.

I don’t know if it would improve game play to be honest. The biggest problem with followers is that they get in the way and often aggro crap they shouldn’t. If it was one of your Alts, they would have the same flaws as Brann. Knowing Blizzard, they will add just as many quips but they will be generic Elf, Dwarf, or whatever race your alt is.

It wouldn’t, it would just make it easier to cope with.
In reality I want the option to remove the follower in exchange for a buff.

Delves are story driven and we level up those NPCs. I also don’t want my alts acting crazy like Brann and yelling things at me.
So… hard pass.

This sounds really cool. I would personally opt for a model-only aspect, where the alt I choose has the same customization (spec + curio) as Brann does.
Might be fun but… incentive seems kind of low unless there’s some power or collectibles to be obtained by leveraging your own characters.
We have reached a point in WoW where, whether they say it out loud ever or not, there is a very implied “so level one if that’s the meta,” because of warbands.
Again, it’s delves. So what if leveling an [insert class here] is an “I win” card? We all have the power to roll (for example) a guardian druid and win the entire open world game if we like.
My point is they might make them generic NPCs like Brann himself is, rather than class/spec-based and using their own abilities.
It’s probably why they haven’t gone ahead and done this already. Just further work they’d have to do rather than a generic follower tuned around each role.

They explicitly said at one point that they were looking into the idea of alts in follower dungeons
