I’m posting on my Rank 11 Commander for a reason. I did the very first pvp grind back in vanilla & still have the crappy lvl 58 blues to prove it. I had a great time doing it with some awesome guys. It took some long hours & a real commitment with a great pvp group. I stopped @ rank 11 because I got spouse aggro. Which is fine I have a awesome wife. Real life > game life.
During that time we did not try to come up with a system to keep the honor gained to rank at a minimum or ask others to tank their honor gained for the week so others could rise. It was healthy competition between all. Everyone actually earned every rank & title.
Now I’m being constantly told I need to get in a system a few folks on the server has created to allow a chosen few to rise first & expected to limit my playtime, tank my honor gained for the week. Keep my honor capped @ 700k or less.
The complete opposite of what I experienced in vanilla.
I am requesting an official Blizzard response on this so we know Blizzard’s stance on this system & these honor capping systems & those who are called “Bracket Breakers” because they do not want to be part of it. They prefer to actually earn it so it means something.
players wanna control it. If you wanna go against that, go against it. Nothing can be done to you.
On my original vanilla server we had a mafia tryin to bully people into their rank gimmick and a lot of folks bought into it. A few of us didn’t and intentionally pushed against them because of the BS they were trying. Had they been more reasonable they all probably would have ranked up a month or two faster than they ended up ranking. Ultimately, we couldn’t compete with account sharers and the negative things they did to try to slow us down (pacts with the other faction, telling them where we were so we could get camped, etc), but we definitely slowed them down.
You do you, if some one tries to give you a hard time for not helping them game a system, screw em.
What you are saying you are being asked to do was quite common back in the day. Many did it, many did not do it (it’s up to the player to decide if they want to or not).
Good question. From my perspective it comes across as a form of win trading. Who will win high ranks is predetermined at the expense of others & not actually earned. A system designed to benefit the chosen few at the expense of others who have the time & inclination to commit to 18 hour game days.
I’m an older guy. Yes, a boomer ;). Everything I have in life I have worked for & earned. Never once in my life have I ever been asked to achieve less so others can achieve more. It is a foreign concept to me.
“Lets work together so we can all get what we want. But we just have to ask you to tank your honor for a while until we rank up first. You can be after us i promise”.
No thank you! I’ll just keep racking up my honor
I was part of a premade group back then. We won a lot and had much fun. But as the group ranked up, this concept surfaced. It really rubbed be the wrong way so I quit the group. I topped out at Rank 12, but felt good about how I got there.
Except Blizz did nothing about kill trading during phase 2 (I reported several of the players I saw doing it- they weren’t docked honour, stayed at the top of rankings, weren’t suspended).
They did nothing about devilsaur collusion in phase 1. They’d do nothing about win trading now- and they won’t be touching brackets.
This is the game for exploiters, Blizz is basically only going after the most obvious and heinous (such as those that layer exploited raid bosses)- and even then, they did nothing about layer exploiting black lotus, chests, dungeon bosses, and even let streamers that have video evidence of them exploiting against them both avoid punishment AND keep their extra loot from killing multiple MC bosses in the same week.
I remember this very system from vanilla as well. Back then it was something that could actually be enforced because battlegrounds were server only and you couldn’t transfer elsewhere.
I say go HAM and push the honor requirements as high as you can just to spite them. It’s what I would do if I had the time.
They’ve decided to create a system that allows people to have lives while still achieving the goal of rank 14. It’s not a crazy concept. You 100% don’t have to participate.
Systems like that are usually overall a good thing for the pvp community. It puts a limit on how much is needed to rank up at the top so you aren’t needlessly wasting hours and hours getting hundreds of thousands of extra honor that may or may not be necessary. At the end of the day you obviously don’t have to participate, especially if you feel like the order in which they are placing people isn’t fair and/or biased.
Kind of seems like a bit of a communist system to me. “We shall dictate who receives the reward this week, and the weeks after that, and your personal contribution does not matter.”
Ultimately, you should be able to play however much you want to play. It’s a competitive system within one’s own faction, so comparing it to win trading really isn’t that far off base. It also isn’t like this is a system where one person will reach the top and stay there indefinitely, never giving others a chance to achieve it. In my experiences once someone reaches max rank they’re done, often with PvP entirely.
As someone else said in the thread, screw 'em. If they want to rig the system for their own group that’s their deal, but no one should be forced to participate in their scheme if they have the drive and the free time to put in the hours required. They can wait their own turn, as the people who will put in that many hours are ultimately finite and relatively few in number. At most, I imagine they’ll be delayed by a month or two.
