Boycott Torghast

Torghast is a puzzle and I never seem to find any of its secrets on the web, so I try and be as observant as possible as I play through it.

Last nights discovery’s - tossing a Ravenous Anima Cell on an enemy mob gets you an Anima Orb, tossing a Ravenous Anima Cell on a Broker Vendor gets you a special Anima Cell that awards Phantasma, but if you are lucky enough to get the Shoplifter blessing that allows the Broker to be attacked, you can do both using the Broker, just attack him and then toss the Ravenous Cell on him, bingo, 2 rewards. (Well technically he becomes an enemy mob once you hit him, so I guess it makes sense.)

The Phantasmic Amalgamation. The blob that steals your Phantasma and keeps it if ya don’t kill him in time. My worst enemy at first, now he’s my best friend and I wish he was in every run. Click on your clock and activate your stopwatch, clear it to zero and start it whenever you kill him and and between 3 and 4 minutes you know he’s comin so don’t be fighting 4 mobs when he does. (alarm on your phone may be better)

When you kill him he gives a little more then he took and it can vary, on my last one it was 25. But not if you have the right anima spells (the + phantasma ones), if so his bonus increases after every kill, I was counting +56, then + 72, then +91 etc… and it never ends, he never stops respawning even if you sit in an empty room and wait and even after last boss is dead. But you need the RIGHT spells, I had one run where it was +1 bonus, then +2, then +3 who has time for that, but when you do get right spells it sure is nice to say “Broker, I’ll take everything” (forget about the time bonus if you go that route)

Good thing you can basically ignore the timer and instead focus upon completion, empowered and bonus objectives to still get your 4 stars right?

I would be all for it, but I have to do my Soul Cinder chores!

I boycotted it in Jan when I unsubbed. I can only imagine what it’s like now.

counterpoint: the new rating system is great

torghast is much better now.

I agree with this. even at 6 floors, by the time we got a really good buildup of powers and started to have fun with them - it was over. now at five floors? even worse in this aspect.

there’s adamant vaults, yes. but I wish they’d frontload the powers more so we could have the super op smash it all experience for longer than like… half a floor and the last boss.

Bah i get 4-5 star easy by taking my time and solo the thing as 205 Ilvl max so if I can u can too

Why’s it trash?

Is this another timers-ruined-my-life issue? That’s already been proven wrong as many. many posters have linked screenshots of 4/5 completions with zero time bonuses.

Some of the point bonuses are arduous, sure, but at least imo, I like torghast v2 much better than its earlier iteration.

Agree 100%. Made my own thread with my own thoughts on it here(long):

which I’ll sumarize in this thread: The new point system sucks becaues I just cleared Layer 9, didnt die at all, killed the boss on my first attempt, and… I only got 157/200 points, only getting 3 stars, and not being allowed to progress to the next layer. Even though I did a “perfect” run by the old metric: no deaths + killed the boss + killed every mob and did every event on every floor… but apparently thats not good enough because I took 31 minutes instead of 28 minutes and because I took fun anima powers instead of picking crappy anima powers.

Friggen Yikes.

Oh wow another bad player

Just get better

Heres why its trash. I am a player who solo’d all of the OG torghast as it came out, including twisting corridors. I just did my first run since returning, a layer 9 run.

I killed every mob.
I broke every vase.
I did every little side quest, chest, gimmick.
I didn’t die at all.
and I killed every boss on the first attempt.

and…

I did NOT get to proceed to the next layer because I only got 157/200 points. I was 2 minutes over the par time and I chose to have fun and pick anima powers that are apparently “not allowed” if I wanted to pass the layer - a “bonus” explained NO WHERE in the game, at all. I had to go to a third party website to find out I can’t stack powers or pick any epic powers or I lose “bonus” — actually should be called “required” point system because its not a bonus if its REQUIRED to pass on to the next difficulty layer.

So yah, its a bad, anti fun system. Not just the timer, but the whole “bonus[required] point” system itself, especially since its obscure and not explained in game in any way. If clearing the whole run without dying and killing the boss isn’t enough to “pass” its an inferior system to the old pass/fail system which at least had crystal clear objectives : dont die too many times and kill the boss = super simple, straight forward, easy to understand and shoot for. versus an arbitrary point system of do’s and don’ts you are now allowed/not allowed to do.

The anima powers were one of the big “fun” features of torghast and this new “bonus[required] point” system literally discourages you from utilizing the most “fun” aspect of Torghast? Thats counter intuitive game design and whoever signed off on it should be fired and not allowed to work in the video game industry ever again under threat of jail time for crimes against gaming.

Yes they do. The breakdown of your score is given to you after each run.

I have 3 hours left on my sub so I decided to do a torghast run, I quit on floor 2 because it’s really boring

Same boy. Except i run 4stars on layer as rogue 205 by taking my time. If i can u can too

The breakdown of what you did get. It doesn’t show what you could get.

The community also had to figure out best usage of empowerment.

nah it’s not though

As someone who just did his first run this patch and only got 3/5 stars at 157/200 points despite clearing the whole dungeon, doing every event, never dying, and killing all the bosses - telling me AT THE END - AFTER I’M DONE AND HAVE FAILED - doesn’t really help me going in to it.

The scoreboard at the end also doesn’t tell you what the bonuses are for, they have vague names like “pillager”, “savior”, “plunderer”, and “hoarder” and while sure, you can guess at what those means, it doesnt straight up tell you and more importantly, it doesn’t tell me what bonuses i did NOT get - so i don’t know about the other bonuses - the ones I had to go to a third party website to find out about - not picking epic powers, not stacking powers, etc. The game didnt tell me about those bonuses I failed to get so I would have no way of knowing they exist without going to a third party website - horrible design.

Don’t even get me started on the conovulted “empowered” system thats also not explained at all in game. All I know is I got a buff, I used it for bosses, and only got a small bonus from it - still don’t understand what it was for or even why the heck it was added. whats the point of adding ANOTHER “power” system into torghast ontop of the anima power system? just convolutes the concept of torghast - giving you something else to keep track of while in there. stupid addition.

Well if u just did. its kinda normal it mean u dont have the box of many thing that is quite helpfull my friend

I’m sure I can. The run was piss easy and boring enough. And now that I know I’m not allowed to take the epic fun powers or stack any powers and I should just rush through and just kill the floor bosses like its something mythic+ race instead of a fun dungeon delving exploration experience. How silly of me to think I my existing way of successfully doing something would still work. I should have known I should have to go to third party websites like wowhead and look up these new bonus[required] point systems and restrict myself from taking advantage of the fun anima powers that torghast was originally all about, silly me, I should be treating it like a mythic+ dungeon where I just rush thru and kill the bosses as fast as possible! Yes! Sure I could do it. but why would I want to.

My only advice is to use an empowered buff during floor 3 to get a 200% completion. Make sure you rush through it before the buff falls off and don’t forget any urns/remnants
