Botting... will it be a problem in HC & SoM2?

Not that I would necessarily mind this but it’s not enough. Even with increased GM presence, permas for selling/buying as well as reduced gold cap it’s still going to happen. People will exchange deets in discord for cash app transactions or any number of unsupported trades.

It’s a culture problem. Blizz can knock themselves out to try to police it and sure it will work for some. Do I believe they should at least try instead of phoning it in while waiting for the acquisition to go through? Yes but I’m not holding my breath.

The reason it is complicated is because the bots run below the operating system… and the bot detection they have can do that… but it would be illegal to do so. The answer is hire some gm strictly for bots… but that would cut into profits… so that is probably a no

I’d say the number of people quitting a shotty ran game hurts worse than a 18.00/hr GM.

Indeed. The filthy bots will likely be back.

Will the players that seen their game get rekt though? That’s a gamble.

Maybe. Does microsoft have a bot problem witb any of their existing games?

Very likely they do.

Can’t say I played to many Microsoft games recently but I defiantly will have more faith in them.

You will never, ever be rid of exploiters. Bots fall under the category of exploiters, and as long as systems exist people will find ways to exploit them.

You aren’t wrong just ask D4.

Pretty crippled from 2 exploits by Season 1.

They even let them keep the exploited ubers. They condone it.

Nothing to do with legal. You don’t understand how the bots work. They are literally using “locked” macros, to put it simply. It works by first having an “unlocker” to give them full access to the API command library, then they have a “script” that pretty much plays the character based on the locked API. As soon as a forbidden macro fires, the character should be D/C’d. We’re only “legally” allowed to use a small fraction of the macro commands in the WoW code.

Amusing the amount of people who actually think Blizz has any interest in driving bots from the game permanently.

They have made enough money over the years I could assume they would easily pay for resub/another account off a 3rd party site for cheap.

I would think they could ban them weekly for 6 months and they still would be coming back with the money they have made from this bot fest of a game.

= even more money for blizzy

I’m sure not every bot would be using a 3rd party site, but vast majority. But WoW costs a lot more then a sub, so even if a few did it. Would be more money in the end for blizz. Plus the resub.

Yes this is purely hypothetical because they clearly have zero interest in that.

Or maybe I’ll go forward and cope for that after 19 years of being complicit, the 20th year will be different. “Blizzard’s really doin’ in good now

The solution to get rid of bots is not difficult. This environment is created by shareholder financial outcomes.

Nailed it.

So the server that allows AH, trading and use of a mail box didn’t have issues, but the server that will allow AH, trading and use of a mail box will?

A lot of these ppl have completely developed and automated response systems. The botter who did the AMA on reddit says he gets a ping on disc immediately when he gets a PM in game, he can swoop into that box and reply like a human almost immediately.

In game GMs can be fooled badly.

Its actually fairly easy to detect bots in wow without ever contacting the account.
You also dont need a botting justification to bad accounts permanently… Accounts that are fly hacking (there are no joke thousands of them right now) are all easily subject to perma battlenet bans without possibility of protest.

You also don’t need a GM to see fly hacking LOL.

Nor do they need to be fly hacking to be easily seen as a bot.

They take the exact same path if they don’t use the fly hacking.

It’s not rocket science, its a make as much money as possible before we give our company up kind of thing.

You don’t need “serious tools” you just need to hire a few GMs to ban them on each server. This problem is easy to solve they just don’t want to.Probably they’ve calculated that the salaries for the GMs exceeds the subs for the bots so they let them run. Trashy, but thats how Activision is.

Boting will always be a problem because blizzard do nothing about them and RMT aside forcing random people in the company to create random threads about bots beign banned whitout any backup to the info they release.
