Botting problem in desolace

Hey guys

Seems botters have found a tactic to make money on

There is a repeatable quest in desolace that has you open water traps for shellfish

Well having to try to do this quest was a pain because it was camped day and night by the same botters - I’ve reported them but thought I would make a post too

Basically there are around 6-7 guildless people spread out that have “bot-like” behavior with either deepdive helmets or water breathing potions or warlocks all around lvl 43 (which is when I assume the mobs that spawn from the traps stop giving xp)

You get 50ish silver per turn in and the fish you get from turning them in can be sold on the AH for another 50s - meaning this is a source of gold for them

I stuck it out and completed the quest, but damn did they swarm all over making it hard

Here comes the swarm:

Report . move on.
When Blizzard does a ban wave they will get caught in the net as long as people right click report for cheating.

A popular WoW expert recently made a video saying that this quest was the BEST way to make gold below 40 in Classic. Naturally, that video creates a lot of competition on every server.

And grinding? Well, a lot of people need mount money at level 40. What better way than to GRIND the VERY BEST way to make gold below 40?

That makes me skeptical. If the players are doing other things that bots do and players don’t, fine. But just because they are grinding that quest is not evidence of bot-ness. After all, you are grinding it too.

It’s not botters, it’s people farming big iron fishing poles. I opened over 700 traps to get three of them.

No they are botters. Some people are legit behind their keyboard opening the traps (you can tell), but most are botters. I’ve reported at least 8 of them on my server doing this.

No you can’t.

Actually yes I can

You really can’t.

If it we’re as easy as you claim, there wouldn’t be any bots.

Its pretty obvious sometimes

most people would see you close to a trap and give up on it, but the bots will close in on a trap you are next to and the second you right click on it they do an instant 180 and head for the next trap that will spawn like they have a timer on all of them

and they always swim in straight lines, they don’t go straight up or down in the water or stop to turn around and look. Plus they are always guildless lvl 43s (which is when the spawns from the trap and quests stop giving xp)

Plus with the number of people at the traps now, I doubt its efficient gold/hr for a non-bot considering it took me so long to get enough to finish the quest once.

Is that the one with the random drop fishing poles?

I came here just because I did a search on “wow classic bots shellfish”, due to the fact that I just tried to do this quest and saw 8 bots doing the cages. There are obvious ways to tell that they are bots contrary to what Glinda would tell you.

  1. I work nights, I logged in on purpose at 3am when there would be no one on to do this quest, there were 8 people here (only ones in Desolace).
  2. The swim the exact same pattern around and around
  3. They target the cage, even if you are already there and even if the cage goes away because I open it, they continue their line to the cage anyways and still try to open what is not there
  4. I could not get a single one of them to respond to a tell or a whisper

They are bots for sure… I reported all of them, not that it will make a difference. Took me 30 min just to finish a quest that should have taken 5. I ended up just staying in a spot where there were 2 cages and never left so that I could open them up as soon as they spawned.

Dude.

Why you gotta be like that?

I’ve noticed there are bot swarms like these in most zones
