I corpse camp hunters and the occasional mages grinding in Azshara, Ungoro, and Deadwind Pass. I have a friend who tracks 5 man farming groups heading out to Strat UD from Ironforge on his Allliance account, and we corpse camp them too. I’ve literally done more to stop bots at this point than Blizzard has.
Yeah, I did this as part of my honor grind months ago. I’d kill the bots in the middle of the night between queues when I couldn’t find real players to kill. At one point there was a ban wave and the bots all disappeared within 3 days. The bot problem is 2-3x worse than when I did it so it’s probably even better for HKs.
I brought my Level 29 Rogue to Raven Hill, with the intention of lolganking twenty-somethings killing zombies. There’s a Level 27 Hunter, Level 26 Hunter, and Level 22 Hunter botting the Skeletal Fiends. All with nonsensical names and boar pets.
As I post this, there’s a single Level 23 druid who isn’t a bot – and I’m leaving him alone because FFS Blizzard.
Farming them for HKs is literally their only benefit. I knew it did nothing but it was a nice honor supplement when no other honor was around.
I’m so conflicted about the bot problem. Like in retail I feel like it’s not noticeable, probably because they’ve changed up how they do services (I do see advertisements) and farming, but regardless I haven’t given them much thought for the longest time. I do remember back in Cata and MoP that I would see and report them though. Overall it felt like botting had largely been crippled, especially when a very specific bot company got destroyed and taken down.
But here we are on classic and there are so many player driven botters (for honor or raid prep) and chinese botters that it’s just ridiculous. At one level you have to ask yourself why you dont bot because it doesn’t seem to be something blizzard cares about to feel like they are making any impact. I know they do ban bots and it’d almost certainly be a matter of when and not if you get banned, but damn does it feel like you could get away with it sometimes.
