Some of them are actually multi-boxers. That’s usually what you see when it’s a “similar” name afking in game A… then you requeue and notice the same exact guy afking on his multi-boxed alt in game B 
There’s a multi-boxing afker going around at the moment (on Alliance side) with “Ortho” at the beginning of his name. His naming scheme seems to be “Ortho-[class]”. I’m guessing he’ll disappear once he gets his horsey, like all the other multi-boxers before him that signed up to epic BGs for the sole purpose of afking
Over in Classic/TBC bgs, deliberate afkers actually get actioned or banned for “non-participation” or something like that. I’m not sure if the rules are somehow “different” over there or what, but it’s a shame there is no similar “non-participation” rule in retail
