Both WoW and Eve Online are having sub issues

Both WoW and Eve Online are having sub issues. Th reason is basically the same. Both games seem unwilling to adapt to gain new customers.

WoW has a better chance to recover then does Eve. WoW resets at the start of the new expansion. Eve does not reset. A new player is competing against a player with over 100M skill points.

Also both Plex to Isk rate and the WoW token to gold rate is spiraling upwards. That makes it nearly impossible for casuals to pay their sub with in-game money.

Source for WoW’s sub issues?

I mean I’m still here, I find the cost $15 to be pretty reasonable especially since the cumulative inflation rate since 2004 (when the sub was also $15 for way less content) is more than 55%. The sub would be like 23 usd a month right now if it cost the ‘same’ as it did in 2004.

Blizzard has removed many grinds from the game, vastly shortened the leveling process, allowed new players to choose any expansion’s content to level and made most previous expansions free upon subscription or base purchase. How is it failing to cater to new players? WoW token prices? C’mon.

Even Dragonflight is after a timeskip and the devs have explicitly stated that it’s the perfect time for new players to jump in since the story does not rely on Shadowlands.

Eve online was never designed for a new or casual player. Its a model that has kept them still going longer than wow has been. If it aint broke don’t fix it.

Wow, Eve Online is still around? Dang, I thought that had died off years ago.

Even better with a 6 month sub dropping the monthly to 13 bucks. That’s less than 50 cents a day making WOW one of the best entertainment values around IMO.

Indeed.

I think most people in GD have it backwards, WoW’s problem is the constant gear resets/catchup systems. People are encouraged to quit the game, come back later, and instantly get caught up with rapid, massive catch-up.

Why bother to stay subscribed and play the game when you can wait 5 months and get everything overnight? The current dev team really seems to consider people who stay subbed to be suckers.

Nothing lasts, anymore. You’re on a constant rapid hamster wheel of planned obsolescence after just a few months.

THAT’S the problem.

You say that like it hasn’t been the case since like WotLK if not earlier

It wasn’t. There were items you could get in Tier 5 in BC that would last you the whole expansion.

Tiers were also longer and slower, so stuff felt like it lasted. You got something, and actually had time to enjoy it.

Black Temple was a 10-month raid. And you know what? Nobody complained about that.

It keeps its hardcores who were able to ride out crap changes. I dabble once in a while. BUt…I have several billions in assets and free isk to play the game.

them removing a huge chunk of hi sec space did not help them. That killed resubs. they came in, saw billions of assets in now deadly as hell space they could not move and said…damn, my eve addiction is cured. and left.

And to think I made that exact comment at the end of Burning Crusade. lol!

Before ICC even hit, I was the jerk every raid having to comment “am I really the only one bored of this dynamic???”

you do NOT drag EVE in this carebear stuff, please.

let us have ONE mmo to call home.

Ok and ICC was 7 months before a 1 boss gap filler came out, 12 months before the next actual tier [with cata].

Dragon Soul was 10 months.

SoO was somewhere in the 12-15 month range.

HFC was somewhere in the 12-15 month range.

Antorus was 9 months.

Length of a raid tier is such a weird talking point to drag out when that hasn’t really changed all that much over time.

All 4 raid tiers in Wrath released within 13 months.

BT was locked out of being accessed for months because they kept Kael unkillable with bugged healing threat.

They also added Sunwell badge gear that was on par with black temple gear.

And the biggest change is multiple difficulty levels. Unless of course you’re fine with raids being made much easier and mythic raiding being removed to bring raiding back in line with the early WoW single difficulty level? Which would be a mix of normal and the easier heroic raid fights in retail.

The current team is committed to 5-6 month theirs, they’ve said. They’ve put the hamster wheel on maximum.

no, that’s exactly it. raids arent worse, we are whinier.

They repeatedly promise consistent content releases in these small timeframes and then fall off almost immediately. It means nothing.

Prove it since WoW hasn’t released sub numbers in years.

Wow certainly has sub issues, no one cares about eve online, everyone knows wow is being slowly sunsetted. For me there are no viable alternatives to play. Unless there is a major shake up and most of the devs are fired or Microsoft takes things in a better direction then game will continue to lose subs.
