Will they ever unlock it where you can have both factions on the same server? What is the downside to this
I’m unaware of any suggestion they have made that they would do this. Not being able to transfer from HC (Normal) to PVP may be indicative of them not wanting to make such a change.
I don’t know. It’s how it was then. Is there an upside for such a change that would intuitively result in more subscriptions?
they can i have chars on both faction of crusader-strike in sod as the result of the megaserver formation
but they generally dont because faction balance has issues
It is unlocked on PvE realms afaik.
There isnt much of a reason to have it turned off on pvp servers other than immersion and meta gaming otherwise.
I can also see a lot of toxicity coming greifed(?) or greifing(??) players logging onto the opposite faction to whisper nasty things. It happened on PvE realms but at least pvp was optional there.
I think servers were designed to be smaller and therefore, the world pvp aspect was more intimate. If you could log into the opposing faction, you could spy on a player to see where they’re at to gank them. But on the anniversary servers, if someone was to gank me, I’ll likely not see them again until a week later when I had already forgotten their names because of layering.
Not just whisper nasty things but track your zone movments so they can camp you.
They can still do these things but it costs them an extra $15/mo. I can’t imagine taking the game so seriously you’re willing to pay for two subs just so you can talk trash.
People do it! I was taken aback the first time it happened (i was in my high 20s) but I’ve had several people swap to a horde* to send me nasty messages after a pvp encounter. Most blindly sling RL insults - only one person who has swapped to message me seemed balanced or sane - the rest have been very cringy.
I haven’t had that happen on Anni yet.
I did have someone message me on discord from a server that I left before launch and accuse me of leaving the discord because they were talking trash after a PVP encounter in my mid-20s.
