It there any real point to reporting bots? Does Blizzard even pretend to care about them?
in before the blizzard simps come in and say they ban based on reports and that mass report bans aren’t a thing
I think the reason people don’t think bliz does anything about bots is cause bots aren’t on the forums all day complaining they got banned
That’s cause they don’t get banned lol… All they have to do is give their cut of the profits to blizzard and they’ll be able to exist without any risk
Yes it does help, and it takes literally 5 seconds to do so might as well.
I report every bot I find. I often have an in-game mail from customer support from them.
But reporting a bot doesn’t mean they are banned right away.
Be suspicious of people who try to convince you reporting doesn’t do anything, as you’d have to wonder why they want you to not bother reporting bots…
Well, I have reported the same bot, every day for two weeks, and Blizzard has done nothing. It seems clear that Blizzard simply doesn’t care about them. The lesson to players is don’t waste your time.
For better or worse they ban bots in waves, I assume once a month or so.
Feel for the OP.

The best thing to do is to unsubscribe stating why.
Yes, it’s important to report bots, you also don’t need to report them multiple times or have a ton of people report them. While reporting them won’t immediately get rid of them, it will get them put on the list of accounts for the hacks team to review and pull data for in their next batch report. They would only be identified as a bot however if the logs can indicate some sort of botting activity, such as seeing some sort of automation software running, or if they can connect the gold to RMT market.
While they won’t always be able to get rid of all the bots, it also puts these more probable accounts on Blizzards radar and anything that can add to the RMT overview helps. Personally I know I have managed to get rid at least a couple dozen bot, and know others who have gotten them banned as well. Obviously there are always some that Blizzard simply won’t have the needed data to confirm it’s an actual bot, and yes this can be frustrating.
One negative of the batch system is it does delay the actions, which gives an impression that nothing does happen to them, but I do know I see lulls after each ban wave, and have seen many bots disappear. Unfortunately though new bots appear, almost immediately so the lulls are almost always temporary, unless something else pulls them away like new server launches like SOD did, and then the Anniversary servers.
How many times have you posted this unsubscribed thing now? It is laughable. You are one of the regular misanthropes on here that claim to dislike tons of things, constantly tell others to unsubscribe, claim for years now to be unsubscribing yourself and yet here you still are posting day in and day out
Living, breathing, proof that misery does indeed love company.
Better to go with the annual subscription. Decent savings there tbf
everytime I report a bot I get a mail from blizzard I have like 40 on cata and couple pages full on anni dont see that name again
That is very interesting, Mediumburger, as I have made dozens of reports on bots and have never - ever- received a communication from Blizzard on the subject. Others have said that they receive communication from Blizzard as well, so I believe you, but Blizzard is not very consistent.
That’s a big claim man, do you have credible, substantial proof that Blizz is in kahoots with bots?
Or did you take it for granted?
I need to update my comments in the interest of fairness to Blizzard. Just a short time ago, I received an in-game communication from Blizzard that a bot I had reported had resulted in the bot’s deletion (as well as further action on the player involved, which was not revealed). So, Blizzard did come through after some delay. I will withdraw my comments that reporting bots is a waste of time as reporting does (eventually) have value.
is it possible that a lot of the bots you report are actually people?
everyone says everyone is a bot now. if another player takes your resource node = bot. player performing poorly in the open world = bot. hunter using eagle eye = bot. etc etc
people talk about literal conga lines. i personally havent seen them.
im not saying their isnt any bots at all, but i personally dont think the amount of bots is anywhere near what people say. majority of bots arent farming the open world. they are farming dungeons for raw gold.
In my case, there was no chance the bots reported were people. It was in a very specific area of Badlands and the three bots involved were clearly part of the same stable ( all the same race and class, all the same level, all with a similar gear score and all three running exactly the same route through Badlands for hours at a time). I also talked with other players in the area who saw the same bots and who said they had reported them.
I do get asked occassionally if I am a bot, and of course, I quickly whisper that I am not. I agree that real players can be targeted as bots, but not in this case. These bots were simply farming resources outside of dungeons.
From my time fighting Alliance in Redridge on my level 22 Horde characters (low level PvP is fun okay), I can say that 1 out of every 3 or 4 Alliance mages in Redridge are bots.
Yes, they absolutely are a bot. It can be harder to tell by just watching them but if you attack them it instantly becomes obvious. I always make sure to report them.
Not sure if reporting works but on some of my newer chars in classic i get whispers trying to sell “blizzard approved” gathering bots and such. Sheesh.
Make sure to right click the chat message and report it!
