Recently in a m+ run of Darkflame Cleft, I had the Candle King encounter start off with my tank getting sent off the platform by Darkflame Pickaxe, followed immediately by Paranoid Mind cast going off despite my attempt to interrupt it. I assumed at first that the group just played poorly, but thankfully I was streaming the run and after watching the recording after the run you can clearly see that we performed the mechanics correctly but were still hit as if we have failed them.
In the clip linked below, you can clearly see 2 major issues:
- Despite positioning his character about 120 degrees away from where Darkflame Pickaxe was pointing, our tank (paladin) still gets hit by it instead of the wax statue it was pointed at. It’s almost as if the boss turned back to face him before throwing the pickaxe.
- Immediately afterward, you can see that I and the DK in the group both attempt to interrupt Paranoid Mind (he used his at around 40% cast progress, I used mine around 80%). My interrupt goes on cooldown both on OmniCD and on my ability hotbar, so this cannot be blamed on OmniCD malfunctioning. You can pause the clip to see that both interrupt attempts occurred while the cast was still happening. Despite this, the cast finishes and we all get feared.
Between these two bugs occurring back to back, my best guess at what happened is that there was some kind of problem with the server processing combat events in the correct order, i.e. the correct order should have been:
- Boss turns to pickaxe target
- Boss throws pickaxe
- Boss turns back to face tank
- Boss starts casting Paranoid Mind
- Boss gets hit with an interrupt
- Boss stops canceling Paranoid Mind
Instead, we got:
- Boss turns to pickaxe target
- Boss turns back to face tank
- Boss throws pickaxe
- Boss starts casting Paranoid Mind
- Boss gets hit with 2 interrupts that are not fully recognized by the server (both my and DK’s interrupts go on cooldown, but do not stop the cast)
- Boss stops finishes casting Paranoid Mind
- (Maybe?) server processes interrupt after cast has already finished
Oddly enough, after the first set of mechanics, the boss goes back to functioning normally.
