Borrowed power is so much better than just getting a new talent

Ignoring the argument that adding more talents every expansion would be a nightmare to balance (which it would be and is 100% an argument that instantly destroys the hate against borrowed power), imagine getting to 60 and having your character be basically the same for 2 years with nothing but some slightly bigger numbers to look forward to each raid tier.

That would be boring as hell.

Unlike most talents, you don’t get a passive signature ability option, which was kind of disappointing to learn.

I, too, love having to balance classes around temporary power so that the class feels incomplete to play without it

If having nothing new mean that they dont have to waste all of their time balancing every new system and can actually put time into perfecting the class, i don’t see how it would be boring.

The reason we need those rental power is because that our class are incomplete because of those borrowed power.

More talents are a nightmare to balance, but all the covenant abilities are just fine and dandy?

You don’t just add, you trim the unused ones and keep the good ones. Add ranks of talents again, etc Give people a way to actually customize their builds instead of 2 dead talents in every row.

Eh. I can see it be a lot boring.

ikr my cata pally whitout dragon soul tier set was def incomplete whitout that major borrowed power from a tier set from which was introdued in a patch.

Ok so you cut all of the post just to keep the only part you wanted…

If its already good and not boring, there is no problem. Adding something that broke everything doesn’t make it more interesting.

God I remember this. But if you call tier sets borrowed power you’ll scare the children.

But uh, I think the ever-changing climate of the game is sort of like the new seasonal M+ affixes. New circumstances each expansion make us adapt to something fresh. There’s not much wrong with the covenant abilities and other things that get called “borrowed power”, and given how some of the more popular Legion abilities then became talents or baseline, it seems like this is their way of experimenting so, it’s really whatever to me.

I, too, love pointing out that this statement makes no sense when you realize that every MMORPG and RPG does that because power isn’t static.

So you’re saying things are balanced now??? :eyes:

Bloodlust has been in the game since Vanilla. “Borrowed” power implies power you will only have temporarily and have to work toward improving

I am sorry. You said nothing new was ok as long as it was balanced. That was your post.
My point stands, nothing new is boring.

All rets do.
It was horrible.

Same, sure it is cool to add some of the leggo/convenant/tier set skills on the talent table im all for it once the exp is over but i am whatever as long as overall balance makes the game playable.

Ya exactly like tier sets.

Wrong.

Nostalgia tripping because you also needed to farm Gur’thulak off Deathwing to be optimal in PvP.

But yeah I think the way they’re doing it now is just fine. Give us a bunch of stuff, tell us it’s just for the expansion as a feature, and then the cream of the crop gets lifted up into future versions.

Better than adding it as a talent and then they can’t remove or edit it without major howling and all. Glad someone’s pretty much in a similar boat.

Ya that made me quit cata.

Which still doesn’t make any sense in the context of an MMORPG that constantly adds more content to the game.

But, nah, ‘Borrowed Power’ only existed when Ion started taking command.

Tier sets enhanced power you already had, they did not give you new powers that made your class incomplete without them

Also my bad, bloodlust was added in BC. Point is, it’s a power we received that we still have, it was not removed at the end of BC

I completely agree. Borrowed power works to keep things fresh. Thing is though, its got to be done well.

It was done well in Legion. The artifact weapon was a cool idea. Getting AP for it led to opening more abilities and passives. It all came together well with the setting and story.

The necklace in BFA was kind of a knock-off artifact. Still, stacking abilities in the necklace for different builds was fun, I guess.

Now, were to the Covenants. Were early in the expansion so I dont want to knock it. The abilities we can choose and swap in and out could lead to varying builds. Right now I not that impressed though but as I said, its early.

Im imagining an even worse game scenario where I never get to max level no matter how much I play and its nothing but placebo to keep me distracted from the fact that there is no story / content

You don’t have to add actual new abilities and talents to give players permanent improvements to their characters.

What if we got things to improve our mounts? What if we unlocked better ways of transportation? What if we unlocked better ways to manage inventory? What if we could unlock cosmetic “skins” for our spec that would change the entire aesthetic of a class, but all the numbers stayed the same. What about ways to permanently receive more rewards from various activities. What if we could unlock dyes to apply to armor? What if your main could unlock different services that let your alts call upon them for help?

There are an infinite number of permanent, enjoyable things we could be unlocking that stayed with our character forever. A studio responsible for developing videogames should be able to come up with something.
