Stellaris if you're into empire management and customization.
FFXIV is tons of fun and much faster paced than youâd expect at level cap even with its slightly longer GCD (tons of abilities off the GCD you use in between).
It has better and relevant crafting and gathering professions. A better story (imo), with good voice acting.
The dungeons are fun and diverse, as are the raids.
The open world and game in general are gorgeous and the combat it smooth and feels impactful.
Itâs a solid 8/10 imo.

Heck, my daughter and I are enjoying the copies of Destiny 2 we got last week. I cancelled both our subs today and will probably return when Classic comes as long as the current devs dont botch it up.
I'm looking at the upcoming games:
Pantheon (made by former EQ people)
and
Ashes of Creation

FF14
SWTOR
NWO
STO
RO
All good fun. FF14 mandatory sub, the rest, sub optional. All have cash shops you can just ignore.
I've been looking at ESO.
Are the movement and combat controls like in WoW ? Also can the view be made third person? (first person causes me issues)
ETA:
I'm not leaving WoW (paid into next year) but I am hardly on it atm.
Chronicles of Elyria looks really good, no idea when it will be out though.
For ESO, you can play 3rd or 1 st person. Your choice. Controls are different in ESO compared to wow. You can be in the middle of a fight, and can switch from dps to heals immediately. If you ever wanted to play a caster in plate armor you can do that. Use every weapon, etc. ESO has tons of lore, and you make choices throughout the game.
For example, I had a situation where the son of a influential person committed a crime, and had to decide whether to have him killed, or be banished. You can do jobs for the thieves guild, or the dark brotherhood (assasins). As a player in ESO, you forge your own path.
Game is worth checking out.

Since people keep bringing up SWTOR, I was wondering:
1: I know it's an older game, but what are the opinions on its lifespan/pulse? Is this something I'd join, only for it to be sunset a year or two later? Would there be difficulty finding people to do stuff with?
2: What's the gameplay like? Solo, group-centric, casual, hardcore, etc.?

For SWOTR a great game playing solo. They have class quests which can suck you in, Sith, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, etc. Up to lvl 50 or so. Gameplay very similar to WoW. I don't think it is harcore, more casual friendly, but a very good community. When I play, people tend to help you out when you have questions in chat. I have to warn you, pay the $15 dollars monthly, other wise this game is very restrictive. You can always cancel when you are done.

Calling troll on this. Not what steam reviews say. Kingmaker is a buggy mess with bad gameplay and a lot of loading screens.
GW2 I have 8 maxed characters. It is fun, but I'm disappointed with the pvp. They moved away from the original game's pvp. The builds are also much more boring. But the graphics are good, and it can be a lot of fun to play.
ESO, I have 4 maxed characters and champ levels. I have a werewolf and a vampire. It is super heavy questing in its content which I didn't care for. PvP - you have to farm equipment from Dung to get a meta build. It is full of a lot of content and is generally a good game.
Rift = bad
Neverwinter = pay to win or grind for a century to be competitive.

Cancelled my sub a couple days ago and have been playing FFXIV for the first time. Significantly slower than WoW but hasn't bored me yet. Got a chocobo, feelsgoodman. Can't wait to tank some raids.
destiny 2, should have gotten it for free over the wkend...something to mess around in. xD
eso, but you pay for the game first to play (like gw)...no sub.
gw2, you can play vanilla for free...i think...and no sub.
ff14, pay for the game and has sub.
swtor, free to play.
fallout 76, when it's out next week.
personally, i can't do korean mmos but you're welcome to try them. tera and bns are probably the popular 2 that are played here in the west.

Hey man, great question and here are some alternatives.
Final Fantasy 14
Elder Scrolls Online
Star Wars: The Old Republic
All are pretty decent with FF14 being probably better than BfA so far, in my opinion.

I'll throw in another vote for FFXIV.
I tend to switch between WoW and FFXIV, depending on which is more interesting to me at the moment; I've definitely been on FFXIV a lot more lately, particularly the last month.
Superficially, it's not THAT different than WoW; the nuts and bolts of the gameplay mechanics between the two games can be considered essentially the same, but they do diverge quite a bit in places and have different focuses.
GCD in FFXIV is still 2.5 seconds long as a baseline, though you do get the "skill speed" and "spell speed" secondary stats; it's essentially the same as haste, though different depending on caster or not (the two never really share gear, so it's non-issue for most). By the time you reach the level cap, I think it's actually closer to 2.3 seconds (I'd have to double-check in-game to be sure, but it DOES have an effect).
The other factor, especially after the changes in BfA, is that FFXIV still has off-GCD abilities; empty GCDs are also all but non-existent in FFXIV for all classes, you're at least doing your basic combo abilities constantly (while not trying to stay alive through whatever the boss is doing).
Between these details, the gameplay speed between WoW and FFXIV is at least on par (at least once you get past the first 40-50 levels in FFXIV)... if not leaning towards FFXIV being slightly faster once you're in the endgame.
---
The story in FFXIV is still a mandatory grind... but depending on your viewpoint, it's actually arguably for the better of the game as a whole:
The only real downsides to FFXIV (once you get past the longer GCD and mandatory story content) are as follows:

11/04/2018 10:36 PMPosted by JainI am still interested in trying FFXIV again. I tried it over a year ago and the GCD drove me nuts. Would someone mind letting me know if the GCD has work arounds now? This was my reason for not continuing to play the game. Plus the story grind was taking forever. Thanks in advance.

The story in FFXIV is still a mandatory grind... but depending on your viewpoint, it's actually arguably for the better of the game as a whole:
- For the most part, the story is quite good. There's some sluggish sections, particularly the first half of the level post-50 storyline before reaching the first expansion proper... but the second half (and the first expansion) are some of the best storytelling in the entire FF series.
- It ALWAYS gives you something to do with every major patch, and usually the minor patches as well (be it main story content or side stories). Not always a lot, but there's always something. On another note, patch updates tend to be more frequent than WoW; typically every 3-6 months, though the first patch of an expansion tends to have the longest wait.
- It keeps people on the same page in terms of the story, you never miss out anything (well, one weird exception if you take advantage of Palace of the Dead). This has some good benefits, and for the most part people are respectful about not spoiling anything for you (or at least not intentionally doing so).
- The difficulty curve is consistent and CONSTANTLY ramps up. The current endgame content is at least on par with Normal Raiding in WoW, if not starting to approach Heroic difficulty. FFXIV is not afraid to kick your !@# if you're careless.
The only real downsides to FFXIV (once you get past the longer GCD and mandatory story content) are as follows:
- There's generally LESS endgame content to do... particularly for hardcore players doing only the top-end of the top-end content. Raid tiers are only 4 fights (though you could argue they're usually all good fights), and only two difficulties (Normal and Savage). Extreme trials are one-off fights, though you usually see one with just about every major patch. "Ultimate" fights are kind of new, with only two of them having been implemented... though that probably gives Mythic raiders a run for their money.
- Gearing system is less interesting. No fancy procs, and you don't see the actual percentages from secondary stats. Tokens/currency is also how you get just about ALL endgame gear, straight-up gear drops are rare and usually only filler items until you get better stuff with tokens. On a small note, most endgame gear can be upgraded; this is just an ilvl upgrade, though the gear becomes dyeable in just about all cases.
- PvP may as well be non-existent in the game.

I'm playing Elder Scrolls Online and having a lot of fun, the lore is good, the maps are big with a lot of things do explore, Dungeons are cool, craft is good and relevant, there are a lot of builds to make even that some of then are not part of the *metagame*, but you still can customize your char with things that you find fun.
At the start i was thinking that i was not going to spend much time on the game, but i've already complete the lore of 2 of the 3 factions and now i'm ending the lore of Daggerfall Covenant with only 2 maps lefting.
People say that ESO is P2W but all the things that have on the store are cosmetic or to just speed somethings like the researchs for traits on professions or to upgrade your mount, and if you pay the subscription you have access to all the DLC and receive 1650 crowns (the store coin) monthly to spend the way you want. You can pay the subscription, gather some crowns and then buy the DLCs that you want and then stop paying the sub.
They are giving the recent map DLC that was launched last month for free, you just need to log in everyday and pick up the rewards until the day that Murkmire is the one to receive.
I know that WOW players have some resentment on playing another MMO's and more so when they are free or B2P but seriously people at least give it a try to some of then, i'm not playing WoW so much now because i'm bored and pretend to go back on 8.1.
I play WoW because of Lore, i love reading, i love to explore the regions and learn more about it and ESO is giving this to me like WoW do.

Downloading it as we speak too. Hoping it pans out well.
I wonder if all these games were prepared for BfA to release a flood gate of its players unto their services? :0
