Boosting Rogue: Assassination or Outlaw?

I have a boost for prepurchasing TWW, and I’m thinking about using it on a Rogue, as it’s one of two classes I have yet to play and level to max.

I am wondering what spec people would recommend boosting and starting to practice playing with this class: Assassination or Outlaw?

I know in a few days the class is receiving some big changes, so I would like to keep that in mind, as well.

Thank you!

I mean the boost hardly locks you into a spec. Try both and see which one you enjoy more.

Sin and Sub essentially use nearly identical secondary stats afaik, so there’s also that. Depending on what type of content you want to do, we generally have at least one that’s a good performer.

Agreed, there’s no reason to commit to a spec until you try all three. They all have pros and cons. I will say, each of them plays differently.

Especially if this is in anticipation of the new expansion, I’d consider waiting until more information on Hero Talents are revealed.

I can’t speak to fun, but in terms of raw performance in PVE group content, the following things have been true for a few expansions now:

  • Outlaw (along with Sub) is generally better than Sin in all content where multi-target damage is necessary, like M+ or bosses with add phases.
  • Sin has been better for pure single-target boss fights.

There’s a rework going live today that aims to switch this up.

However, the rework has likely made the situation even worse for Sin. Current simulations put Outlaw (along with Sub) as doing more damage than Sin in all content.

  • Outlaw outperforms Assassination by 35% in Dungeon Slice and by 6% on Single Target.
  • Sub outperforms Assassination by 11% in Dungeon Slice and by 3% in Single Target.

These are just sims, and it’s possible that either the sims are wrong, or specific content might cater to Sin’s strengths in a way that makes it the better choice, or there might be some last minute balance changes to even things out. Who knows!
