Boost my confidence for getting into corruptions

What advice do you guys have for someone who’s a bit timid to get into
corruptions ?

FYI, I played BFA from about the beginning, then stopped for a while. Came back when essences were put in game. Wasn’t looking forward to chasing multiple essences, although I have had a lot of fun on my main who now has most of the essences I care to bother getting. Obviously without being up to speed on essences, you’re pretty gimped compared to others in PVE/PVP. I wasn’t thrilled to then hear of this new corruption system we have and yet something else to chase. I feel like between azertie power and traits, plus essences that was plenty enough heh.

Corruptions I haven’t gotten into much. One reason is I’m sick of chasing and grinding so much crap in BFA. I got my cloak to level 2 and didn’t do so good in the two heroic visions I tried, which may have turned me off to corruptions in general. I haven’t been able to decide if I even wanted to bother with the corruptions stuff. I don’t raid and I’m fine not going crazy with mythic 10 or higher, I also like to run BGs. Feels like essences are a must have for all the characters one plays, but not so sure about the corruptions.

Curious to hear from others how big a deal you think they are, especially for the content. Any tips that might make me more comfortable to bother with corruptions is welcomed.

Corruptions are a pretty big deal. My mindflay tentacle corruptions account for like 12-15% of my damage in a long fight. It can be like 60% of my damage in a short fight. Some people say the corruptions are consistently like half their damage done. Corruptions are definitely worth doing if you want to maximize your dps.

One big downside to corruption is that you have no control over which corruptions you get and that some of them are massive game changers while others merely grant you useless stats like avoidance.

I find using sims and bloodmallet to be helpful when trying to see if a corruption is worth keeping. I try to stay within 20-39 corruption because it is a sweet spot for most people. The bad things from the corruptions are outweighed by good corruptions. Also at 20-39 there doesnt seem to be any cosmetic corruption effects that I don’t like.

Don’t bother.

Not sure why anyone would be timid about gear. I mean you can have an opinion about said gear and how it’s acquired, rng, etc., but not sure why you would be timid about it.

I’ve failed a lot on my new Monk trying to do the corruption stuff. It gets much easier with research, practice and persistence.

Monk unlike this is more of a low M+ baby and will probably stick to +5/6 as WW/BM.

Persistence like most things, is key here. good luck!

(This is the one!)

Not using them would basically be like not using azerite gear. Sure you could technically do that, but you would be kneecapping yourself.

Raise cloak a lot. It is not that hard, even solo.

Use a good high ilevel corruption thing, for you. I’m not going crazy, nor am I sacrificing ilevel.

I got a 420 something, with infinite stars, but I don’t like sacrificing ilevel for one gimmick. So I just did more junk then got a 445 gloves with oozing blood something which is supposed to be good for blood dk. The oozing thing is also only 15 corruption.

If I can be working towards the rank 11 cloak, only while being a blood DK, you can certainly bang them out as a Hunter.

Corruptions are extremely important. As an example, a couple of weeks ago I was doing heroic Shad’har, and we had an affliction warlock with the Infinite Stars corruption that topped the charts. After I saw logs from that fight, I found out that that singular corruption accounted for about 25% of his DPS, and did about 5M damage over the course of the fight.

They’re not as important if you’re not actively doing endgame content, but if you are, they’re incredibly important. This character, I’ve been trying to get a good corruption because I’m being outdps’d by basically all other DPS in my guild that are around my item level, due to them having better corruptions than I have.

What lvl should my cloak be before I try pushing for some of the side objectives ?

Cloak is lvl 3 currently since I haven’t ran many visions. I feel like in my vision yesterday I probably could have done at least one bonus objectives. I used one of the orbs or whatever you call them to restore my sanity before I killed the boss, although I really didnt need to. After I finished I thought I should have been able to do one bonus plus boss.

Was curious what cloak lvl most of you started tackling some or all of the bonus objectives, also when you started running with masks. I do these solo at least for now, so what I get for rewards is seemingly just to lvl my cloak since the ilvl gear I get isn’t high enough to help me really until I start clearing more bonuses and use masks.

Just dewit

They aren’t that hard

You can reliably get azerite gear, but there are several layers of RNG that need to align to get the best corruptions. If you are lucky, then you can be good. If not, then your class will suck.

I don’t think there is anything to worry about really. You talking about horrific visions? There are buffs and debuffs you want to look out for, take the few seconds to mouse over them and figure it out. Generally I do 2 to five a week, depending on how many do-dads I can buy to do them. Don’t take horrific visions too seriously on the two or three area clears until you have a bunch of points in the MOTHER thing. So you get 3 “oh Crap I need more sanity things” and one free death if you put your first set of points on the left side. Map out your plan of attack and just do it, save one of those bells or whatever for the last boss.
No need to rush, get a page a run until you get more power. It will work itself out over time.

edit: if your talking about corruptions themselves. I just play the game and use what it gives me, trying to balance them out. When I get a piece of corrupted gear I keep the piece it replaces, just in case I need to do some balancing.

anther edit: Use those 3 things to do a little exploring, just make sure you have one left for the last boss.
