Did the developers intentionally want boomkins to not be in eclipse at the start of the boss encounter? For those who don’t know, the eclipse drops down to 0 after starting a boss now but before today, you could start in lunar or solar. I really hope this is a bug or it really speaks volumes that out of all the problems in the game right now, blizzard chose to intentionally further nerf one of the weakest dps class in the game.
No, this is an intentional change from Blizzard to stop snapshotting Mastery. Called the ‘Sunkin’ build. This build was an attempt to catch up to other casters as Balance is currently one of, if not the worst performing casters.
They have now not only remove it, but nerfed the classes normal rotation. Amazingly incompetent. See below for what it is.
**Sunkin is a term for a balance druid who snapshots a mastery set onto a solar eclipse in order to stay in that solar eclipse at all times and deal their damage through nature damage spells which do not generate any lunar energy.
Thank you. I looked into Sunkin and this warranted Blizzard’s full attention and resources to “fix”? Sunkin is nowhere near as bad as naxx unholy gargoyle. Even after the gargoyle debuff, unholy could still be number 1. Boomies are still dead last. What about fixing languish back then when boomies were asking for it? Why was blizzard dead silent then? Why was blizzard dead silent about this “fix”, this is a bug if we have ZERO communication.
Please Blizzard, bring back our cata classic experience. Let the Sunkin be sunkin, I want to relive classic but not like this.
Masterykin with a full mastery set was doing about 120% more damage then without, There were def a few people who private logged 100ks on halfus and 40ks on v+t with this.
What’s so bad about boomies doing well on AOE fights?
This “fix”/bug is terrible. I am incentivized to not do trash anymore and stay at 80 solar energy to have a more ideal opener. This is terrible!
After the whole bearweaving debacle in WotLK, so much for this I guess
Didn’t test it on the PTR. Didn’t even mention the change in the patchnotes. They’re too busy cruising along with SoD development I guess.
Honestly so stupid. Nerf the worst caster. Thanks Blizz
Yea this kind of ruined my day yesterday, I was pretty pumped to show off how a boomie can do some damage in raid and put a lot of hours and gold into this. Then the day of, around 4 hours before my raid was to start, I found that all the time and effort I put into my dps was just gone, without even a notice or comment from blizzard. I barely beat the tanks in damage on some fights and purple parsed… Its pretty pathetic this was felt necessary. I get changing a snapshot mechanic that they don’t want, but to further nerf the spec? if nothing is done I’m probably going to quit boomie.
Oh wow, the gaslighting from blizzard is INSANE.
Promise to communicate? Nope
Promise to test in PTR first? Nope
My suggestion from a different boomkin thread.
love it.
We should also add that shooting stars does not reduce eclipse but can add towards eclipse.
I don’t know if this build was applicable in pvp, but in arena, and even BGs, moonkin damage was absolutely outrageous, being almost double the amount of two competent players.
If this change doesn’t affect that, moonkin is STILL incredibly strong and oppressive in pvp. If this change DOES affect that, it was warranted.
This has no effect in pvp since whenever you enter a bg/arena, your eclipse gets reset anyway.
This was a shadow nerf and Blizzard lied that they would communicate any change in advance and at least test it in PTR before implementing.
Shadow nerfs was a trend of cata.
Hunters got stealth nerfed over a dozen times in cata
I’m referring to what Depressing posted:
Agrend literally said this last year:
Im not a fan of stealth nerfs in general, but its a stealth nerf to the lowest dps caster that really is quite odd. Could we please get some communication on this? Is playing boomkin in raid an intended choice?
Blizzard any update? I can stay in solar while questing, why is it reset during raids?
This is the one thing that we do know. The technique of snapshotting mastery by building a second item set with mastery maximized, proccing mastery trinkets on trash, entering a solar, and then keeping that huge snapshotted solar for boss fights was eventually going to be very strong once guilds stopped wiping in raid content. I don’t mind that technique being eliminated. It had to be done at some point. The issue is that a stealth nerf was used to nerf it that also nerfs “normal” play.
Blizzard has communicated in the past that it agrees that stealth nerfs and untested changes are bad policy. Could we please get some communication on this matter?
It doesn’t affect pvp, and you don’t play sunkin in pvp anyway. You take Lunar shower for mana management/mobility/damage, cycling between eclipses for the mana regeneration, reducing moonfire to under a 200 mana cast, and increasing it’s instant damage to about 10k a crit. This making the only hard casting boomy does is roots and clone.
I can snapshot to make questing go faster. I don’t agree with allowing it for questing and then not allowing it for raiding. I highly doubt that even if you bring the snapshot back, it can outperform pure dps classes like fire mages.
