(Book Spoilers) What Deal Did Sylvanas Make With The Jailer

The fine folks at WoWHead have read Sylvanas new book and discuss the most important part. If you don’t want to be spoiled thanks for stopping by. For others here’s the good stuff:

Personal opinion: Love the explanation. To bad it wasn’t mentioned in anyway in-game.

This sucks actually. I mean the explanation makes sense and it’s perfectly fine for wow lord. But to have none of this in game not even a hint really sucks. We spent this entire expansion wondering “is the jailer actually bad or is he a victim? What are his motivations?” Only to find out the answer is “rawr I want to dominate reality” along with a book explaining why Sylvanas would ever consider joining up with the dude who created the scourge

Sylvanas never saw Nathanos, it seems. Who stood by her side always, in everything.

She is relatable, I know several people who feel like that (never finding love and such), but have people that really love them.

Interesting, so zovaal actually had a mental break down from all the souls that passed before him and couldn’t take it any more. That does make sense.

Well, I agree that all this extra information about the jailer would have been helpful in rounding out the character and giving him more depth but I’m not sure it’s quite as helpful as some people think.

There is still the plot hole of why he even needed her to begin with. Everything he needed was in the shadowlands already and by having her shatter the veil between the two planes, it gave us a way in to fight him when we had no idea of what he was even planning to do let alone have a way to reach him.

I was one of the ones complaining about his lack of backstory but I realize after reading that that the more they answer, the more questions it raises.

The answers to all those additional questions are, “The creative team doesn’t know and didn’t plan out an explanation. Please rely on whatever personal rationalizations you can come up with.”

I wish we could have gotten a definitive explanation on how Sylvanas ended up in the Maw when she threw herself off the top of ICC.

The Jailer tries to imply that the arbiter sent her there, but we all know he is a liar.

Agreed, she was very skeptical of him at first and rightfully so as he was the literal progenitor of the Lich King

More borrowing…

I have not read the book yet, but from what I have heard, it sheds a lot of light on Sylvanas’ motivations and why she allied with Zovaal. This needed to be explained to us as soon as we entered Torghast to rescue Anduin in 9.0. Those cinematics of her lecturing Anduin should have been an explanation. It’s so silly that we get this information after the story is over.

Thats been a complaint of mine for a long while now. It also brought me to the realization that the story matters to me more than I had always thought.
Anyways trying not to sound like a broken record. As a whole it was a HUGE epic story when you look at the whole thing. How it was told in game was… Well, pretty bad in my opinion.

So now I’m left thinking if I should just depart the game and read the books. I’ve been playing a long time so that last thought makes a lot of sense. Time will tell.

So should we be worried about Pelagos? Or hope for the best?

Are people surprised lore is not in game but in the books? Remember after we take down garrosh suddenly in game it jumps to him being in the past with his father with no explanation in game. This isn’t new people

That also gives another question to mind ,what was this he captured in the souls as they pass through him to bring about this fear of what to come? because if it did exist now, it surly existed before.
